This kid should not become DCPS’s problem

Lol! I did not think of that. Still a mental health professional and a home visit is a must.

A white kid used the n word in a video he sent his white friend. There was no threat, just a racist slur, used by the kid to refer to his friend. Another kid posted that video to an anonymous DCI gossip page. other kids commented on the post, speculating about the kid 1) being a racist and 2) being dangerous (one kid said the original kid threatened violence, but was apparently repeating rumor, did not witness this). Police checked it out - they determined there was no threat.

there were no threats. That part was made up/repeated in the rumor mill. Yes, there was a video containing a slur. No, there was not a threat, according to police.

I went down the rabbit hole on Instagram here and saw the video where the student used a racial slur.

The rumor mill makes it sound like there was a racist rant with threats of gun violence, nothing like that at all.

Some kid's private video message to a friend where he used the slur (seemingly directed at his friend) was cross-posted by someone else on an underground DCI Instagram account that hundreds of students follow. You can image the comments and talks of fights...which part of why MPD got involved. There were no gun threats to the school.

DCI sent a super vague email that got everyone concerned, but I would have let my kids stay at school knowing what I know now.

(Also, it was a lesson that there are Instagram accounts you had no idea existed that all the kids from school are on...which I'm now sure every school has.)

I think they were referring to the gun violence parts. Racial slurs were absolutely present.

Whenever there are mass school shootings like the recent tragedy in Michigan, my kids always speculate about which "crazy white boy" at their schools would be a suspect. I know it's gallows humor and that there are other issues at play. But the timing of DCI rumor about the white kid was about the same time my kids were "joking."

The school sent out the email AFTER school started, so most parents were caught unawares. There was a flurry of parents calling in the school have kids sent home early & and pickups...my kids finished classes with single-digit number of students.

A presentation regarding what track to pick (essentially vocational vs. college vs. IB) was cancelled due to all the kids leaving the school today.

The student is no different than the white parent rage we’ve seen all across the country.

He'd probably had it with being beaten up by "marginalized identities" every day.

Huh?

These keyboard warriors are so out of touch with reality. It's pretty pathetic.
