Whoopie pie is a great idea. Nobody likes to make them but everybody likes to eat them. |

I am a huge fan of rice crispy treats, but just to bring tk a bake sale but to actually eat.
If you want to make them a little special, here’s a recipe for brown butter salted rice crispy treats. (I would cut down on the salt for kids.) https://smittenkitchen.com/2009/11/salted-brown-butter-crispy-treats/ I also agree that whoopie pies are a great idea. |
I think they are pretty and gift worthy when tastefully wrapped in cellophane with a bow. |
| Agree with others that Rice Crispie treats are a sure-fire hit, especially if you add M&Ms. |
| Brownies! |
Maybe if it’s skinny pretzels. Those pretzel rods are too dry. The twists with a chocolate disk and an m&m mushed on top are pretty and delicious. |
|
I love other people's brownies especially if they have an added bonus of M&ms or (white) chocolate chips mixed in.
I suck at making rice Kristie treats so I always buy them at bake sales for myself and kids. |
Some schools require bake sale items to be store bought so people know the ingredients. |

Cupcakes are kinda messy and a pain to eat . And the icing is too top heavy high and messes up the ratio of cupcake:icing.
Stick with easier portable grab-n-go items that high schoolers can eat during class, while walking the hallway/to class, stash in their bag/locker until lunch, etc. |
Then it should be called a Re-Sale. |
|
Muffins- blueberry, banana, pumpkin, lemon poppyseed, etc
Small bags of homemade Chex mix. |
The only people who care that someone baked treats at home are ... the moms who baked treats at home. The kids don't care. |
So what is the point of a bake sale? If it’s a fundraiser, then as long as the merch is free to the school (and sellable), it serves its purpose. If the point is provide schoolkids with sweet treats, then it wouldn’t be a sale. But if the point is to extract the maximum amount of unpaid labor from women/girls, then I guess you’re right. In which case, no mixes either, lol — all baking must be from scratch! |
Lol exactly!! It doesn’t count unless it took a female 1-2 hours of time to shop for and make. Give me a break, it’s 2021. Women have better things to do with our time. |
