Generally accurate on the boys’ side at least. We no longer have team managers. |
Correct. Barça Academy runs that way and we've been happy so far with how they run things the past couple years. A meeting with the coach can be had, no problem. We've done it twice. |
Additionally - as other poster said - you have to request a coach meeting through a central email. No side bar e-mail discussions that only you and the coach or you and the club manager can have... The in-person meetings were always just me, DS and the coach or TD if that was germane. Barça Academy's biggest issues to their own success are: 1. "Playing the Barça Way" even when a switch to American Kickball™ might win them more games. 2. Price (it's probably top 3-5 in the area for cost) 3. Location (not central enough) |
You wouldn't get my money for kickball. But you don't need to go to Barca to have your kid play with other kids who know how to play. And of course knowing how to play - even at Barca - means knowing when to play more directly, and where. |

Not sure why it’s funny. It was accurately stated. Bethesda ECNL top level teams have have moved to no parent managers, no forced volunteering. Can’t speak for the younger kids groups or RL teams or EDP. Girls anyway |
Yes my kids team also does not have a team manager. Academy teams haven’t had managers in years. It sounds like the younger teams can have managers but a lot of the coaches have opted against it. |
| The ones that I know of are the high level MLS next teams. The closest ones to the DMV I can think of are the ones out of Philadelphia like FC Delco and then out of New York (NY Red Bulls). My friend’s son plays for Minnesota United U14 and parents usually aren’t even allowed at games. |
This is to reduce the perceived perception of preferential treatment as well as reduce the ability of one parent knowing many details of other families. |
100 % correct. It’s a good thing. |
You're clearly not involved with the program at all (as parent or coach) because if you truly were involved, you'd know that this is the standard right now and has been this season. Please, do tell us more about how you know nothing about nothing. Bitter & controlling parents like you are exhausting... get with the times already. |
| Loudoun doesn’t allow parent influence. |
| Since my divorce, my parent involvement has fell off the cliff |
More clubs need to do this on their higher level teams that are in MLS Next, ECNL, etc. Your kids are going to have their parents around when in college or going pro so might as well get them used to it in their teens. Parents should have no involvement in the recruiting process as well. |
