Mine too. I actually would have told dc to turn it down as I don’t think these alumni interviews can help but can hurt an applicant |
I actually think the opposite. They are looking to add to the app with the interview info. |
|
These interviews are to feed the ego of the interviewer who can't get over themselves for having gone to an Ivy. They do nothing for the kid being interviewed.
Alumni interviewers are pathetic. |
Non-ivy person here. I have wonderful friends who do alum interviews for their Ivy alma maters. They are very down to earth people (mostly rugby players) who are just trying to help the school and prospective students. I know there are people full of hot air at Ivies, but not everyone is like that and not every aspect is about ego. Though I completely disagree w/ OP's comment about how "easier" it was 30 years ago. Then, my kid wouldn't even have a shot coming from public school w/ no connections. That seemed a little entitled to me. |
Huh? |
| Yale in this area just gave out the first round of local interviews this week. I do think this year that not everyone will get one -- my understanding is that the interviews are going to those that they are on the fence about or don't have enough information in their package. I also remember that last year I didn't get my list all at once to do -- I kept getting a few more as each period (EA/regular) was drawing near. |
Sorry, may not have been OP, I thought it was. The person who would not reveal their "alma mater" |
Yale Adm (& other alum interviewers) have said interviews are about alum availability and whether they would like more info that is not on an applicant's app. Not really about "being on the fence." I believe some interviews were assigned before this week. |
