No Democrat will get the red red Republicans. Forget that. The candidate needs to appeal to moderates. And the candidate needs to be serious. I am one who has severe buyers remorse about Biden. I am not saying I would have voted for Trump. But I feel like I got something much different than I expected. And my other moderate friends agree. So I think there is an element of caution among moderates and we need to be won. If Beto were on the ticket today against Abbot, and I lived in Texas, which I don’t, I would have to hold my nose for either but I would pick Abbott. Beto doesn’t have the stuff. |
He’ll win, due to fatigue over the incumbent. He seems like a professional candidate. But, like, Ossoff, you have to be in it to win it. |
Outside of Austin Beto doesn't have much pull. He'll campaign and fundraise from California. Why not move there and run for governor? |
Texan here. Beyond frustrated. I blame the inept state party.
No way will Beto win with his position on guns. They should have gone with a moderate woman. |
What? There's no "they" yet. He's running in the primary. If there's a better D candidate, they can win and run against Abbott. |
Plus one. Always complaining. You want a moderate woman to run and win - well where is she? |
It requires organization and money. My point is that the Democrats all need to get it together and come up with a cohesive plan and NOT run against each other in the primaries. But they don't have organization. Matthew Dowd running for Lt Gov is interesting. But it is too bad the Dem ticket will be two white guys. |
Agreed. I think he is the screw up in his family. I would much rather have one Julian Castro run. He is thoughtful and deliberate, instead of being a loose cannon. Beto has flailed around quite a bit to find his path. I was disturbed once when I read or saw in interview where he was dropping F-bombs in front of his very small children. Not impressed. |
How do you know who the Dem ticket is going to be when there haven't been primaries yet?! |
What is stopping Castro from running if he wants to? I don't understand this line of objections. Can you please explain where you're coming from here? |
In theory, after the mess that was the power outages last winter, a Dem should win easily. But it’s Texas… |
That might have been true if Biden hadn’t take steps to inflame the power industry in Texas. Lots of impacted voters. |
Power industry? |
Whatever they did/do, they need to be cohesive and not run people against each other and ideally figure out the best person to beat Abbott and go all in on her. This isn't the time to have tough primaries. It looks like the Dems have decided on Beto. It is mistake. - Texan |
Her. You keep mentioning her. Which female Texas State Representative, State Senator, Mayor, or Lt. Governor are you talking about? I'm assuming she has the experience needed to win across Texas. |
