| Probably three quarters of what I eat. |
Exactly! Also I am sure the OP knew full well what the cooking situation was. It’s not like she met them for the first time. Way to put down their mom and get on a high horse of ordering pizza once every 10 years. I bet OP is fun and enjoys a great relationship with her SIL |
We order take-out about 2x a month, and I thought we were on the extreme low side- pizza 1x every 10 years takes the cake. Homemade cake, of course.

I do pickup almost every weekday.
I have noticed that people who mostly eat at home and cook a lot are immigrants (most of the time). It is very rare for Americans to cook many meals. At least that’s my experience. I mean cooking from scratch of course. |
I am the OP and I did not know. I was shocked. |
| I eat out maybe once per month. I will get my kids take out once per week though. I am super picky and only like high quality food. When I do get something out, it is from somewhere that makes everything from scratch with fresh ingredients, including the bread if it is a burger/sandwich. I dislike store generic bread very much. But I sure do love a homemade baguette or chibatta |
| Takeout twice a week. Sometimes the kids eat in one of those two nights and adults order out. Might get breakfast sandwiches out on the weekend. |
| We like to cook, and eat mostly at home. Best guess, we will do takeout 3 times every 2 months. |
You're running in a very strange crowd of Americans -- or maybe just a young, rich one. I'm 7th generation gringo and cook every night. We eat out once in a blue moon and never do take out. |
|
We usually eat out or get takeout 2-3 times per week.
We cook, well. But we are tired. |

I wonder if it depends on HHI. We have 400+ HHI
I eat all my lunches out at restaurants at work (several comped by my job, work travel, etc) We order in dinner at least 1-2 meals a week At least one dinner a weekend out dinner at a restaurant with friends. I (female) never cook. As in never. Don’t know my way around the kitchen. My husband does all the cooking, it’s like a hobby for him. He makes homemade pasta, pasta sauce, all sorts of strange recipes. Not sure he saves us any money by cooking at home since he loves experimenting and shops at the gourmet local shop. FWIW - I grew up in an immigrant household, where my mom cooked all meals (badly). I have an aversion to the kitchen since I was young. |

When we lived in London we would have takeout a couple of times a week and eat out a couple of times.
But the options in Bethesda are so bad it is more like once a month for takeout now. We eat out a couple of times a week, maybe once for dinner during the week and once for lunch at the weekend. Pre-covid I would buy lunch out, usually a salad or sandwich, every work day. But I work from home now so no need. I enjoy cooking and prefer my food to most restaurant food. My family may disagree! |
| We order take out at least 3 times a week. I love to cook but don't have the time/energy. It's so easy to order that we just do that. |
|
We do take out maybe 2-3 times a week, mostly due to our kids' activity schedules. We hardly ever go out to eat anymore.
I enjoy cooking and so does one of my teenage sons, so cooking at home isn't an imposition. |

We get takeout for dinner every Thursday. The leftovers usually suffice for dinner on Saturday. We often, but not always, eat bagel sandwiches from a local place for lunch on Sundays. So you can count that as either 2 times or 3 meals per week.
If we are vacationing or hosting out of town guests, we eat out a lot more. |
