After-school share care cost

Anonymous
I paid a friend to watch my kid twice a week. She had one son the same age and one a few years older. Only problem you might run into is after school activities. My kid often went along to the older brother sports practice and I would pick up there. What happens when her kid has a class before u would get there? We paid ours $15 an hour and we did it for 3 years.

Right now neither girl is in any afterschool activities and I don’t foresee any for the rest of the year. She has no other children and neither do we.

I will say that in my experience, nannies that bring their own child generally do not have a large discount in rates. So, I would plan to pay $20-25 per hour and be glad that my daughter has a play mate and a reliable sitter.

+1. I would literally kill for your set up, OP! Pay whatever she asks.

We pay $20 an hour/15 hours guaranteed for a very similar set up and it’s worth every penny. The sitter takes both kids outside to run around for an hour, get all homework done and in backpacks, and both kids happy at 6PM. No one rushes and the sitter is never, ever late because she’s picking up her own kid.

The math does not work there pp.

Btw, we paid $35 hour and it was worth every dollar.

It’s illegal, PP, to pay a babysitter by the month! You aren’t even paying minimum wage!!

It’s aftercare, not a sitter. My point is, I would just do aftercare not a babysitter

I would charge you for four hour minimum. She is still taking care of your children and I am sure you will have her helping with their homework

She doesn’t want to work four hours a day. She has her own child to bring home.

OP here and she asked for $20 an hour/three hours five days a week guaranteed including holidays and five days PTO. We contracted u til the end of the schoolyear and then we’ll reassess.

I am so happy and so relieved! Thanks for the input everyone! I know we got very lucky.
