Which clubs would you want to ref for?

It's not the parents that need to change their behavior, it's the refs. And it's only by parents providing direct feedback that this will happen.

Direct feedback = yelling "thats a yellow card" when you have no idea what you are talking about
or
verbally challenging offsides call from the far opposite end of the field when you could not even explain exactly the terms that define offside

So is it fair to assume that there were no refs for these games bc the parents and coaches are awful and many refs have them on their black list? Were the teams given any reason for why a ref could not be secured?

Don't really want to ref. for any of them lately. There always seems to be at least that one "type A" Dad or sometimes Mom that just screams about any and every call that goes against them. Funny they seem to agree with every call that goes their way though. 100% correct when called for them, 0% correct when against them. Funny how that works. They never stop to think - why is it I scream at every game? And why do they never sign up so they can show everyone how to be a perfect ref? Usually because they are all too overweight to take 3 steps without gasping for air. Solution to all their problems is to shut their mouths, but they don't see it.

Yeah, I shouldn't be reffing U-19 games. I'm 51 with a bad Achilles. But someone has to do it.

Though it helps when the teams are just playing direct so I can just stay within 15 yards of the center line and watch the ball ping back and forth over my head. Also, doing an older kids' games with ARs is easier than doing U-11 or U-12 solo.

Clubs don’t have refs. Leagues do. Having said that I’d ref any game anywhere. I am confident in my ability to keep thing calm and to handle adults and to make mostly right calls. No one is perfect but this is not that hard. No ones stock price is going to plummet or bonuses be lost or massive layoffs, etc. It’s a kids game. Having said that I like coaching better than reffing as I like to teach more than to govern.

I think a solution might be raise the referee pay actually double it. As much people are willing to pay for travel soccer each year if you add on another 100-300 per kid and use that money for high quality referees. might cut down on harassment. But as I type this I remember that referees at all levels take criticism. Fan is short fanatic so based of that definition no matter the age or level it is crazed behavior is always a possibility .

Leagues don’t have refs either. Refs are independent contractors essentially. They can work for any league (at least at the youth level) for any club. They just need to request the game from the assignor responsible for find s referee to cover that match.
