“I Will Vote” Virginia

Not op, but when neither candidate is preferred what’s the point?

Realistically, elections are almost always about making weighted decisions (lesser of two evils many times). You still do your best to make informed, rational decisions. It’s just part of adulting.

You throw away your power when you don’t vote or vote third party (in our current two party system).

OP here. I wasn’t being scolded for not voting, but for not voting early. I am a poll worker and always vote on Election Day. I have voted for the last 17 years of eligibility, even in low turnout primaries.

You are a poll worker and are not going to vote over a random postcard?

Can you even see what people are saying here that it is to encourage people to vote, even if misguided IYO. Do you know there is data showing that shaming/praising works? Healthcare workers who saw when their colleagues were washing hands increased handwashing (which prevents infection) by some staggering amount. There are others.

For some who said it reeks of desperation, don't you think true democrats are feeling desperate right now? This election is so important, everyone is watching. But, sure sit it out. Just don't complain when Trump is president again.

What sort of reasonable person with your track record decides not to vote at all based on a flyer? Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face; that is such a childish reaction. And who are you hurting with your big decision? Cmon, OP, be thoughtful.

Definitely don’t complain. Because if you sit out of an election, it means you fully support the outcome.

That's great! But then I am mystified why a postcard would make you not vote this time?

I was going to vote on 11/2 but decided to vote early because I heard that demonstrating high early voter numbers would help keep the option around. Especially with Youngkin likely to win, we need to take all the steps we can to preserve our right to vote and preserve the right that our vote will be counted rather than overriden by members of the General Assebly.

If you had not gone along with the DNC (with heavy influence by the then relevant Clinton machine) to put Hillary Clinton forth as a candidate, we would be in the second term of a fruitful Biden administration, and he could have a relaxing three years burnishing his legacy. Instead, you had to pick the most electable person who has had to react with the mental acumen and physical strength of a 50 year old to overturn the problems Trump created.

Wow! "Burnishing his legacy?" Really? No question, Biden might have been in charge --or not--four yaars ago. But, I doubt he would be any more in charge today. Biden was never a good candidate. Not sure he would have beaten Trump. Although, since Beau had just died, the sympathy card would have been louder than it was this time.

DP: Wow -- this is even more draconian that the postcard. You approve of publicly shaming someone and then try to blame one person for getting Trump re-elected. We Democrats are responsible for Trump getting elected in 2016 and will be responsible if he is elected again.

Continue to ignore half of this country's population and pretend like that are two countries -- one controlled by liberals and one that you deign to allow "the others" to occupy for your entertainment value.

LOL. No.

We had Trump because of 80k people people in three states inexplicably voted for that vile monster.

Of course, you can cross over in any primary conducted by the Board of Elections. Of course, donating funds or otherwise indicating your support of the party is another way to make your way to a list.

Today, it seems that Dem canvassers avoid GOP aligned households and vice versa. I've noticed that on my street. Dems skip the houses of those who've voted in GOP primaries and vice versa.

I think the card sent to OP is creepy--but, as Jeff said, it is publicly available. I did not realize, though, that it was available so quickly to the public. I would have thought they would hold it until after the election. However, the Board of Elections has to have a record of who has voted or people would be able to vote twice.

We don't have Republican primaries in Virginia. You would know that if you lived here.

It's certainly curious how the USPS was able to deliver this mail in a timely fashion. Did the DNC pay for expedited delivery?

NP. Based on things like this, yes.

Over a . . . postcard? I don’t get it.

Because public shaming on such a personal subject is worth letting your party lose. Maybe they won’t do it again if enough people call bs and either vote for republicans or stay home.

What is that expression about cutting one’s nose off?

Every card like this is micro targeted and studied. They send out the card because IT WORKS. You’re talking about voting and now it’s top of your mind.

OP, you’re a bit of an odd case because you’re a pill worker. But just imagine you’re generally apathetic about voting, plus add to that the busyness of work + kids.

A card like this is probably enough to get that voter off the sidelines. And it’s well known that Democrats win when people turn out. The higher the turn out, the greater the chance of a Dem victory. It’s just math.
