| I’d encourage DC to take standardized test….the results will help target schools more accurately. Some great suggestions in this thread though. |

Hi OP, I'm sorry you are afraid of being flamed. This forum can be intense.
We have had family who took a circuitous route to college and were very happy at Utah State University. It also suits your child's outdoorsy vibe. |
Meant to add: there are multiple campuses, and Park City, Moab, Monument Valley may be of specific interest. |
Agree All U of WA Gonzaga Lewis and Clark |
| PP here- and I’d be proud of him! Sounds like you are 😊 |
Sure. I'm proud. Mainly just trying to help him find resources to reach his goals. |
Gonzaga may be worth a look, but would be difficult to get enough merit to get the full cost down to 22k. Getting down to 40k with merit is doable. My understanding is that their freshman class is quite full, though every college has at least some people drop, so I imagine they might still take some in the spring. |
| $40k is completely out of reach. |
| Western Washington in Bellevue WA? |
| I’d look in to Elon University in North Carolina. He’ll probably automatically get enough merit money to bring tuition <30k. The school manages a forest preserve and a farm (Loy Farms) for environmental science classes. |
| Appalachian State |
To clarify, do you mean <30k tuition only, or <30k full cost including room and board? |
| You mean he graduated HS in 2021 and is enrolled in a community college now? |
Tuition (before filling out any specific scholarship applications) |
+1 that’s a popular school for outdoorsy people out in the mountains. Not a lot of OOS students though |
