Help with a friend who thinks I'm her personal chauffeur

How would she normally run errands? Bus? Cab?

Does she occasionally pay for your dinner?

A cousin that lives in the area, or the local bus, or since she lives in a city she lives close enough where she will walk to the grocery store or convenience store.

Nope in the 5 years we been friends I can count the number of times on one hand that she has reciprocated in any way including giving me gas money. I just wish it was a little more of a 2 way street. I totally get that friendships don't have to be tit for tat but I feel it's only human nature to want a little bit in return once in a while for what you do just a little token of appreciation. Hey I appreciate that you always make the drive to get me or take me to do my errands here is a little something for you or how about your meal is on me tonight. Not Everytime of course but once in a while.

I really like the idea of letting her know at the time the plans are made to let her know that I only have time to pick her up and go out to eat or to do whatever activity we are doing that day but then I have to be home by x time because I have another commitment that I can't be late to. This way my friend already knows this ahead of time and can arrange other ways to get to where she needs to go.

How often do you get together?

This is definitely a DCUM non-problem. All OP has to do is give her friend a heads up that she doesn't have time to run errands that day. After doing this a couple of times, her friend will get the message.

If this was a friendship I valued, and I had driven 45 minutes to go to dinner, I wouldn't mind stopping by the atm machine or letting my friend run into the grocery store for milk for 15 minutes. It is hard to tell from OP's description how frequently this happens and how long the errands really take.
