Do you think you're a good or bad driver/parker... and why?

I'm a pretty good parker, but helped along by the fact I have a smaller car so it's easier. I was actually once complemented on my parallel parking job by a stranger!

Please stop driving until you learn to fully pay attention. Your behavior is incredibly dangerous.

Same! But I will also repark until I’m acceptably in the space. I don’t care about looking like a moron, trying a few times to get it right. I don’t take up multiple spaces like an a-hole.

Based on the answers posted so far, there is ONE good driver on this thread - possibly two. The rest of you are just middling hacks, based on all the “….. but I’m not that great at parking” caveats being tossed about.

Not a great driver, because my vision is not great, even with glasses. But I'm careful and experienced, so that helps a lot.

I'm a great parker though. An inch of extra space is all I need for a good parallel parking job.

When I met my husband, I was so impressed by his parking skills. I thought it was so sexy, lol.

Great driver and good parker.

Good driver, because I'm very aware of my surroundings. I don't have a car with all the useless beeps and lights to let you know when you're coming to close to something. Those things make you a terrible driver, imho, as they are very unreliable. Better to learn how to be aware of your surroundings and have a good sense of space.

Also a good driver because I understand how to 'keep it moving' and not do stupid things like drive slow in the left lane (on any multi lane road, not just highways) or block intersections.

I could be a better parallel parker, but I'm ok. Regular parking and backing out is a breeze. I park in the center of the lines - if I don't get it the first time, I adjust because I'm not an ahole.

I, like most people, am in the average range.

Except for parallel parking. I am amazing at that.

Great driver. Ok parker. I’ve had one at fault accident in 24 years of driving. Only three accidents that were not my fault. Two speeding tickets. I am not great at parallel parking.

I'm an okay driver - average I guess. I've never had an accident, so that's a good thing.

I'm fine parking in a regular space, but I'm horrible at backing into a space or parallel parking (but better now with a backup camera).

NP, but some people have ADHD, Susan. Or other conditions, for that matter. Perhaps no one with imperfect vision (even with glasses), a slight tremor, chronic fatigue, slower than average reflexes, etc. should ever drive until they learn not to have those conditions.

I am much like the above poster-- which is to say, I have some excellent habits, too, but I'm aware of my deficits and never stop trying to improve. Yet I also accept that I may never be better than a mediocre driver. Still, I'm at least mediocre. I've gotten into only one very minor fender-bender that was my fault. My driving record, while not spotless, is average or above average. A speeding ticket or two, but not in a long time, and no other traffic violations.

Your comment is just silly, really. It serves no purpose other than to make PP aware they have a problem they've already admitted to, or to shame a person who is already self-conscious and very likely does try their best to reduce its effects. If this were someone who said they drive despite having become legally blind or drive drunk, that would be one thing. But "I'm not a great driver, I get distracted, but I've never caused an accident?" Just take half of the population's licenses away.

That's okay, though-- I know you weren't proposing that. You only posted your comment to feel superior.

I could back a 53’ semi uphill into a 90 degree blind dock in a snowstorm while talking on an old Motorola brick cell phone and never even touch the under ride bar against the dock face.

I laugh at all of you who think “you’re a great driver but terrible at parking”.

+2. Born and raised in SoCal so driving where driving is just part of the culture and it's a terrible thing if you're a bad driver. But because there are so many large parking lots, etc. I never had to get good at things like parallel parking, which I still cannot do well 25 years after getting my license at 16.

This is funny. All these self-proclaimed "good/great"drivers.

I used to teach basic car control, high-performance driving, security driving, etc. At our basic courses, held at race tracks and skid pads, we began the sessions by asking who thought they were a "good"driver. Inevitably, nearly everyone would raise their hands. Then the day full of exercises and classes (physics of driving). Emergency braking, skid control, evasion (like if a kid jumps into traffic), etc.

At the end of the day, they class would be asked again. Who here thinks they are a "good" driver. No one would raise their hands.

Without real training, you are taught to operate a car. Generally, in a safe manner. But actually being a "driver" and in full control of an automobile? Not likely.

Not a good driver or parker. I'm happiest driving the speed limit which I know irritates others but I don't like going fast. I just stay in the right hand lane and use my blinker as necessary.

For parking, I just find a spot far away from all the other cars. The walk is good for me. I do not attempt to parallel park.

Struck a nerve since you’re a dangerous driver too? And a moron. Thanks for outing yourself with your long rambling rant.
