If your DH had bad relationship examples

+1 The issue isn't that he had bad relationship examples. It's that he isn't open changing. Big difference.

My FIL is a narcissistic asshole who has always treated my MIL horribly (in front of other people so I know how he is).

My husband worked his whole life to be the exact opposite of his dad. One time he said something slightly snippy to me (truly slight, but I'm not one to take any BS from anyone) and I called him on it and said, without thinking, that he was acting like his dad. It broke him and he said he would swear to never be like that again and he hasn't.

We both had poor relationship examples...the difference is we communicate about our struggles and we both fight our complacency. And own up to mistakes and weaknesses....that seems imlortant.
