3) The video at least doesn't really show much of a tirade. He presumably behaved a little unprofessionally (the video doesn't even really show that) but it seems like the news is making a big deal something pretty trivial.

A few thoughts:

1. This guy is the Commonwealth Attorney. He isn’t the President. Ray Morrogh never acted like this.

2. Picking random days to screen people is one way to find things that otherwise may slip through the cracks.

3. The video on Fox5 is a neutered version. Those cameras record audio and video.

4. The security guards Descano encountered at the metal detector and x-ray machine are not Sheriffs. They are from a private company. Those two guards were upset enough with how they were treated by CA Descano that they raised the issue with the Sheriffs who are responsible for court security.

Here’s a better story:

Steve Descano, like him or not, is the elected county prosecutor of Fairfax County. He should not be subject to additional screening at the Courthouse, period. He certainly outranks uniformed law enforcement personnel.

It is no surprise the Sherriff's Office filed a complaint. They hate his guts.

Outranking does not mean he's not subject to rules.

Can you make a list of the people that should be excepted from additional screening and give that to the Sheriff's Department?

Why wasn't he briefed on the new procedures?

No, that's exactly what it does mean. Descano isn't a random attorney in private practice - he's an elected official similar to the County Sheriff. He should not be subject to additional screening.

You are a total idiot. Rank should entail a greater respect for the rules, not an arbitrary, petulant claim that one is exempt from them.

Descano has shown nothing but poor judgment in office.

Elected officials work for us- the taxpayer. You better believe they should be subject to additional everything.

You do realize that Congressmen/women must go through security? They are elected officials.

Plenty of elected officials go through security. Some don't like it, but they are not exempt.

The private security guards working the metal detector and X-ray machine are the ones who complained. They are the ones who were on the receiving end of Descano’s outburst.

An earlier post notes that the cameras in the courthouse record both audio and video. The recording that was quickly FOIA’d does not include the audio portion. That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist.

But what if he wanted to take advantage of that leniency and come into the building and shoot a bunch of people one day? How is that going to be prevented if he can just by-pass the security screening? What guarantee do you have that he couldn’t possibly ever do that? You don’t.

You also don't have the guarantee that the armed Sheriff's deputies won't, but somehow they are exempt from this very serious rule.

What would you screen them for? Guns?

He was. Every attorney in the Fairfax Bar Association received multiple notices, so there's no way he wasn't aware of the policy change.
