I drink a dirty golden milk ice latte every day. It's delicious and is the perfect start to my day.

Why is the black pepper needed?

I use white pepper. It's more aesthetically pleasing and has the same affect.

It contains a compound called piperine, which when combined with turmeric, increases the absorption of curcumin by upto an astonishing 2000%.

Interesting, but no black pepper to activate the turmeric.

I can't get a mouthfeel that I like when I try to make it at home. It always seems too oily to me. (This is 100% my failure as a home cook, I'm not in any way dogging golden milk, which I like when people more talented than I am make it.)

So tired of ancient, traditional Indian things being "reinvented" in the West after stripping it of it's Indian-ness to make it more palatable for the masses.

Serious question: what part of that bothers you? You think there should only be one recipe for a food and only the culture that created that recipe should use it? (I'm just thinking of all the different versions of bread or rice in the world.)

It’s medicinal. Whatever makes it palatable to people who need it is acceptable. We aren’t drinking willow bark tea like Native Americans. We take aspirin.

I love turmeric and would do this more often, but one thing that worries me is reports about some turmeric having lead it in. Is there any way to ensure it doesn't?

I stopped drinking it because it stains your teeth like crazy. My toothbrush was bright yellow every time I brushed afterwards. Don’t you all care about this? I drink coffee, but turmeric seems to be in a different category altogether.

I’m Indian and my parents taught me about this. My father grew up in a village. This was commonly given for many ailments. In his village they raised goats and I was often given fresh goat milk as a child. Use whatever milk you wish. My mother died of stomach cancer despite eating a strict vegetarian diet. These kinds of treatments may be helpful, but sadly not magic.
