APS Growth Assessments

"What this means: For grades 3-8, the cut scores were reduced by approximately 10-15% for each grade. And, voilá: more kids are getting 400s on their reading scores, so it does not look like reading proficiency declined as much as it did."

Thank you APE for getting the word out!

Considering students received 20% less instruction wouldn't this be expected? That a reduction in the passing score would be appropriate? Again, we are in a pandemic. School was not normal school last year. Nationwide.

No. The school was supposed to be focusing on core curriculum last year. All of the basics covered on SOL should have been taught. It was enrichment and group activities that should have been cut, not core curriculum. It's a huge issue if kids don't know the things they need to know to succeed in the next grade.

Duran - what a joke. He just lowered the bar and should be fired. He is a failure. Not a leader.

You must not have done very well on the reading SOL. It clearly says Duran is leading the race to the bottom - for the entire state.

"Dr. Durán introduced an amendment to adopt a cut score lower than recommended by the State Superintendent, and the State Board adopted that lower threshold."

Durán is giving up on the students and families who need him the most. At least the gym teacher wanted better.

This was abundantly clear with no new content in spring 2020. “Hey, you know APS’s reason for existence- education? Yeah, let’s not do that and blame it on equity.”

You know Duran was not the superintendent in spring of 2020, right?

You know that he came on board in the spring and defended no new content, right?

Duran and the teachers should get a 20% paycut for lowering the SOL proficiency level.
They must think the parents are stupid.

Why does the SB let stuff like this just slide by? Doesn't anyone at Spyhax really care about the students? Or is it really about just collecting a paycheck?

Just to bump this-- has anyone gotten growth or benchmark results yet? I was hoping to have them in advance of our parent teacher conference so we could discuss them.

I also hoped they would go up before then. Pre covid we used to discuss initial assessments at the conference
