DC Dynasty parent here. By far, DCD is the most diverse team in the league we’re in (NVTBL). Of the 13 kids on our team, 9-10 are minority. Our team may be an outlier but lost teams are about 50% minority. We rarely face another team that have more than 1-2 minority appearing players. Mitchel Marlins is also very diverse, but they are based out of PG so we don’t play them often. |
The age level Mizuno teams we play are not very diverse at all. I do think they sometimes have an age level where there are a few minority players. PP, a good way to find out is to look at the team Instagram accounts. Following your advice about the Instagram page would directly contradict your statement about the Outlaws. This was a specific consideration for us, and I’m beyond pleased with the diversity of the owners, coaches and players, both on his specific team and as the wider organization. I don’t mean to be argumentative, and the organization isn’t even what the OP is looking for in terms of a low key baseball org, but commitment to diversity is a hallmark of the program. |
Not trying to be argumentative either but again the age/level team my son has faced has not been diverse. https://www.instagram.com/p/BzDa0T_nbST/?utm_medium=copy_link https://www.instagram.com/p/BxplQwYnEkX/?utm_medium=copy_link https://www.instagram.com/p/Bv_3MHPBCkB/?utm_medium=copy_link https://www.instagram.com/p/BqWOciXBgxV/?utm_medium=copy_link Maybe some ages are more diverse than others. |
Or maybe it isn’t 2019. It is not an age thing, it is due to an expansion beyond northern Virginia in the past two years, since the organization merged with dbat. Your information is outdated and wrong, and I’d hate for pp to miss out on an org owned and managed by three black men and made up of a diverse group of players from all over the dmv. |
| Can you recommend a program for U12 for a kid who loves baseball but wants a very positive experience with supportive coaches and players? Maybe we want developmental vs pure travel I don’t know. My son’s current team is at each other’s throats after losing all of our games at a tournament this weekend. We are in Loudoun County VA. |
Oh, man, I'm sorry that is happening to your kid! Kids, parents, and coaches should not be at each others throats due to losses, or anything else. My kid's team went to Cooperstown at 12U, lost every single game they played, and had a total ball. Worked hard, had great games that they lost by a hair, broke their hearts, repaired them. It was marvelous. Kid is now playing in high school and we miss that team! It was in MD, so doesn't help you in your search I'm afraid. |
DC Dynasty is very diverse. For whatever reason, Moco teams are not diverse. The exception is Olney. The further out you go, more diversity. AA and HC teams are typically diverse. |
I’m in Fairfax County so unfortunately no recommendations, but I did want to commiserate. My son’s LL team turned on itself and the environment was so toxic. He’s now on a 12u travel team with very supportive coaches and teammates and it’s been such a fresh breath of air to be on this kind of team. They’re not the best team but he (and we) love how supportive it is. I hope you find something good for your son. |

Doesn't help the OP, but my son plays for the Shockers, a Montgomery County travel team loosely associated with Montgomery County Little League that IMO fall into the "serious, but not crazy" category.
The 9U team was one of the top teams in NVTBL, and the 8U team was very successful playing up last year. The teams have all volunteer coaches, which helps keep costs down but does not impact the quality of coaching at all IMO. There are upcoming tryouts for both the 9U and 8U teams. There is only one team photo on their IG since 2019 so it’s not digging. We played a Outlaw team this season. There was not a brown face on the team other than one brown coach. Not exactly diverse. |
Would you mind sharing the team? We are in Loudoun but could do a Fairfax team if it’s a good fit. |
