Keep the kid home.

To the PP that is a teacher, what is your normal plan for a sick kid? If your spouse is a frontline worker I assume they have SL? I am a first responder snd if my kid is sick I use SL and stay home with my kid. You need a better plan.

The issue is parents have a fit if there is a sub.

Not sure you’d be happy if I had a sub for a week while I stay home with my kid who feels perfectly fine and just has a mild cough. What do you suggest I do? Spouse is a front line worker and can’t take off. Would love your suggestions so your kids don’t miss out on a week of education.

I am fine with a sub for a teacher with a sick kid. Stay home with your kid. Your kid comes first.

Thank you! A lot of parents are unhappy with subs.

Thankfully he’s been feeling perfectly fine, just congested. We did keep him home Friday. Wish he were older so he could be by himself, but he’s only 7.

This. Assuming they feel ok, and do not have fever, fatigue, other symptoms.

You keep home for covid symptoms because it might be covid. Once that is ruled out, they can go to school.

Obviously someone else thought it was ok to send a kid in last week with the cold. So the whole class was already exposed to the same cold germs. I dunno…

Colds can be spread before or after symptoms are apparent. Whatever, they happen and are not a big deal for the vast majority.

I’m also a teacher. Parents would rather you don’t send your sick son to spread his cold to his teacher and other kids in his class. You need to find a babysitter.

Hey fellow teacher - Different poster, but definitely not getting a babysitter to stay with my sick child - ill take leave and stay home.

Id say - if the cough is pretty frequent and the nose is running a lot - give it another day in the hopes that it dies down. Mine had the tiniest runny nose THursday and he went to school. Friday we kept him home and got a covid test - negative and now MOnday he is fine. Sister has more of a runny nose, but we'll see how she wakes up tomorrow. THink we will still send her.

Don't send sick kids to school! You shouldn't have to ask. This is common courtessy.

He needs his parent. Stay home. Your child comes first even when he's older. You should not have to get a babysitter and your kids need to know they are your priority. Kids will be fine with a sub for a few days.

Did you miss the part where PP said he’s feeling perfectly fine? I’m sure if she sends her kid to school he will not develop an “I’m not my moms priority!” complex.

Then they will have a fit and it’s okay. The parents in your don’s class willl be screwed if their kids get sick from your son.

we are seeing some weird parainfluenza cases very early in the season. I say keep your kids home for 3 days and if no fever develops send them back.

OP here- kid has had no fever. Eating and playing normally. I do not send my kids to school when they are visibly sick and never with a fever!

Ok, so they may feel fine but they are having cold symptoms and are sick. So, yes, you keep them home. How is this even a question.

Kids can still learn and attend class with colds. If the whole class has a cold, it's inconvenient (and snotty) but it's fine.
