| Op this is a great time to visit many colleges and you will have fun doing this in Florida together. How about the U of Miami? |
| She took the ACT before sophomore year? |
Not OP but some people take it after Algebra 2 in ninth because that’s when the math is freshest. |
Not OP, but I'd love to hear any further feedback on this school. It sounds great for my DD. |

A friend’s kid got in and was offered great merit aid. |
You are ridiculous |
While this PP is incorrect in that Georgetown doesn't offer ED, otherwise the post is accurate. Don't hate the player, hate the game. |
+1 Tulane |
You are kidding right? Death DeSantis? Well guess it's better than Alabama or Texas but that is not saying much. The only school in Florida worth anything is Gainesville. Maybe Fla State. Have fun with triples for dorms rooms and professors that don't teach. Signed. UF GATOR |
Eckerd is a joke, OP no reason to go OOS to Eckerd. |

Eckerd offers good merit aid, sits on a beautiful little peninsula in St. Petersburg, FL, and has good science programs, particularly in the marine sciences. It was originally a Presbyterian school, like Davidson, though it is not nearly as hard to get into. It has an interesting extracurricular program called EC-SAR in which students train and provide maritime search and rescue in the Tampa/St Pete waterways. Like most SLACs, you have the opportunity to get to know your professors well and have good internship opportunities. Unlike a lot of Southern schools, Eckerd is also very geographically diverse. Downsides: it is very small, has way more women than men, and has a fairly substantial hippiesque drug culture.
Schools in the mid-size range would be Wake, Tulane, Vanderbilt, Duke, Elon, College of Charleston, and University of Tampa. Smaller selective schools would be W&L, Davidson, Emory. Smaller decent but less selective group would be Centre, Wofford, Guilford, Rhodes, Sewanee (though it is somewhere between Wofford and Davidson in selectivity). In our experience, these schools offer good merit aid to good students from this area as they try to attract students outside of the South. |
