Techne is a joke. It's literally a tool for the insecure (parents? Kids? Both?) to make it look like they are putting in work to get the coach's attention. Our club had it, and some kids would "train" over 8 hours a day just to race up the leader board. It's easily gamed, and the fact that they have leaderboards, and clubs invest so much money in it, only encourages this behavior. Some players on our kid's team would have several hours of Techne training done by 9 or 10 AM, which would indicate that they woke up at 6:00 to train. Highly unlikely. More likely scenario? Mommy or daddy looking to curry favor with coach or club was up clicking buttons with their morning coffee.

Just so you know, it is rolled into your club fees. It isn't free BUT it is much cheaper this way.

Techne is a great tool, but there are two major knocks on it. First is agreement with assessment above - way too easily gamed. I have seen girls do 12-16 hours of outside training on the app during the school year. Nonsense. Second is clubs being too reliant on it as the only means of technical development. They'll pass over some drilling that should still go on at practice at any level because there's the app for that.

Overall, Techne is worth it. Both my kids have improved immensely, getting more comfortable on ball as result.

Anyhow. Back to Techne. The best part of the app is the competition it promotes and allows the kid to track. So if your kid is motivated by that then it may be the app for your kid.

Fair points. My knock was more on how parents (and kids) can (and obviously do) abuse the app for the wrong reasons, yet fail to benefit from the actual training found within the app. It's insane, and I can't believe parents and clubs are cool with having kids on the leader board who, when broken down, are "training" for 40+ hours per week. For those that use it as intended, and don't get wrapped up in BS, then yes, it's a solid tool.
