| Wow, pretty soon we won't be able to refer to DC as a dump. |
Do u think these people have been here forever? Not so and not in NW, living animal style. Imagine moving into a city and inconveniencing everyone else there before you bc you cannot bring yourself to live in free traditional gov housing. |
| Will the same be done with the encampment by Schneider’s? |
Imagine the audacity of thinking a city belongs to anyone. |
| Did anyone read OP's article? The guy they interviewed is actually from Florida but he picked DC because it's more comfortable for him. So this is not just about "home grown" homelessness but also other states dumping on us. |
What are they developing in an underpass? |
I was going to mention that myself. A lot of cities seem to have this quiet policy of giving homeless folks a bus ticket to wherever they want. |
Public space belongs to everyone. |
You would be shocked at how few of the homeless are born and raised Washingtonians. They are almost all from somewhere else, drawn here by our friendly policies. Talk to enough of them and you might find more foreign born homeless than DC natives. |
Do you really mean immigrants or do you think DC is a nation-state? |
Actual immigrants, yes. From the Caribbean, Central America and West Africa in particular. |
| I would like them to also move encampments in parks and wooded areas. And libraries. TY. |
I have a feeling that slowly but surely the city will be quietly returning a lot of the COVID ‘anything goes’ stuff back to normal as we move into the fall and winter. I doubt that few, if any, COVID changes will stick. |
Good! Let's clean up this mess already. |
A big part of it is that the business community and particularly real estate owners will probably start applying increasing levels of pressure on Bowser and we know where her priorities lie. Office vacancies are at a record high and there are too many shuttered retail storefronts. Traffic is bad everywhere except downtown, which is really not a good sign. |
