Why is there already that Westfield cutout in the current Bull Run boundary?
Seems to me it would make sense to put that whole area of Bull Run at Westfield. Bull Run does have kind of a strange boundary. |
This is surprising to me as well. I always thought Westfield and Centrevill are about same. Apparently, that's not what Bull Run families think. |
Live in the cutout! It's been that way since Westfield opened. The neighborhoods are all kind of disjointed off 29 / aren't interconnected. No clue why no others have never been sent to Stone and Westfield. It's roughly the same travel time to the high schools but much closer to Stone. There is a large, older apartment complex closer to stone road and then a small strip of houses right before Bull Run, less than 20. There are no other houses in this strip until you get to Post Office Road |

If they had done this properly and stuck to objective standards, this could have been settled months ago. And, with a lot less angst.
In the past, SB members were always non-committal to neighborhoods, while at least pretending to listen. I never recall an earlier superintendent making promises or even getting involved. Staff was involved, but we never saw the superintendents. It was mostly SB members doing the wheeling and dealing, but they were careful not to make promises. Reid promised Walney Oaks. Somehow, they were taken totally out of the equation. And, those final scenarios did not include most of Crossfield. I don't see them changing it now, but the School Board could if they wanted to do so. I don't think they will. |

There are a decent number of AAP kids at Rocky Run whose base school is Stone.
Stone doesn't have AAP. Where are those kids going to go when AAP is put in every MS? Stone will be at 98%+. |
Apparently its not what Seema, their SB member, thinks either. Given she clearly pulled a lot of strings behind the scenes. |
Do they do modulars at the MS level? |
| Why should kids at Stone be stuck in trailers while Rocky Run, right around the corner, is 80% full? |
There's not a lot of houses in that strip along Lee Highway. Most of the kids live over in Seema's area, the neighborhood with the civil war streets. |
Why are you advocating for split feeders? |
Split feeders should be a very low priority. As everyone but the SB can see, the capacities don't line up. Stone can't be the sole feeder to Westfield. It makes no sense. |
DP. There are misaligned MS/HS capacities all over the county. Could they take some of the money budgeted to expand Centreville and use it to expand Stone instead? |
I agree. However, not every elementary school is below capacity. Floris is at 107%. I think Herndon ES is well above 100%. There is a large development going in on the Coates/ (now newly) Floris boundary which is where the new silver line elementary school will go. This development will absolutely push Coates well over yet again. FCPS could shift kids from Floris to Fox Mill/McNair/Oak Hill/even Lees Corner. |
Stone won’t be the only problem. Franklin is also going to be overcrowded when the AAP kids get sent over from Carson. Both Rocky Run and Carson will have space to spare. Why would we waste money expanding schools when there are open seats right next door? |
| Liberty also will have a lot of open space in this scenario. |
