I'm at work, & bored. What 6 schools are you applying to?
Mine are: Ludlow-Taylor Stoddert Hyde Eaton Brent Janney |
| Hard to believe lottery starts tomorrow. Since it doesn't matter when you enter, any folks holding out until the last minute? |
| I haven't decided on my list yet. |
Is Ludlow seriously your 1st choice? Why? Not that its bad - it just doesn't seem like most people's first choice. |
|
Brent Maury Tyler Spanish Montesorri (formerly Watkins) Payne Ludlow-Taylor |
It has - by far - the best scores of any school on the Hill. The closest second is Watkins and that's about 20 percentage points lower. AND LT is around 85% low income whereas Watkins is less than 30%. It's just a better school. |
| OP here. To add to the PP, it has an amazing principal, they are getting a new facility in 2012. |
You're picking Payne before LT? How come? Just curious... |

Stoddert

Good choice. Stoddert is supposed to be the easiest west of the park school to get into OOB, but it still has competitive test scores (competitive with JKLM, obviously more competitive scores than east of the park). |
Payne is our in-boundary. We had a meeting of in-boundary parents a couple weeks ago - there is considerable interest. I have heard multiple reports from teachers, other administrators and parents that the principal at Payne is fabulous. The PS classroom is supposed to be large and very nice. I just don't know whether Ludlow is enough better than Payne to warrant the drive. I don't care about test scores at all - I did before my older child started school. I love the thought about my younger kid having playdates with school friend who live a block or two away. |

Eaton
Hyde Ross Janey Murch Curious first poster at the geographic range. Capital hill and Upper Northwest? I am a bit stressed about my list because I will be traveling about 45 minutes each way. How are others thinking about the drive issue? |

Ross
Oyster Murch Eaton Heart ? A JKLM that we have no chance of getting into. But, I'd take Stokes, Cap City, El Haynes over any of those. |
The drive/commute certainly figures into making our list -- and is one reason why I haven't decided completely yet. I have heard that long drives are very stressful on kids and parents alike. So that weighs into my decision. A slightly better school may not be worth another 1/2 hour each way (1 hour a day for the next 7 years).... |
| Why not Mann? |
