Our power has been out for 14 hours in Vienna

That sucks. We are in Vienna, but we never lost power (although it did flicker quite a few times). Our friends in Oakton (off Vale) have been without power since last night.

Same here in montgomery county. Pepco is truly horrible and will now be seeking out of state assistance tomorrow - for a few inches of snow and ice - pathetic. No word after 14 hours when it will be restored. I getting tired of cleaning out my fridge!

our power in Vienna is out, we live off Hunter Mill Road. Supposedly will be back on around 6pm today.

I feel for you guys. We ALMOST lost power last night in Alexandria; the lights flickered several times and we lost power for 15 minutes but it came back on. Last winter, we lost power for 3 days during the blizzards in Feb. For the poster who is tired of cleaning out the fridge - last winter, my DH buried our food in the snow and most of it was saved. It sure does suck though not having power...we eventually had to go to a hotel.

Power out in Arlington (or still was when I left for work). The scary part is our neighbors next door go their power back. Which means its a small subset of the neighborhood left without power so we are probably at the bottom of the priority list.

It's amazing how many times I tried to turn on the lights/radio/TV out of habit

This is the Nation's Capital and we can't keep the lights on. Unreal.

Power flickered many times.

I feel for you.

Other side of Nutley Street (Fairfax side).

Power still out in Bethesda. Spending the day (possibly the night) with friends who do have power... the same friends whose freezer hosted my breastmilk stash when we lost power for 3 days last summer! (and yes, we hauled the stash over again)

Now 16 hours. I'd love for it to be back on around 6 pm <praying>.

How long do I have until I have to throw out everything in my fridge and freezer?

I was wondering the same thing. Do we just open the darn things tonight and eat what we can or do we try to keep them closed and save it all?

I can't same I blame the power company for the delay. Our neighborhood is full of downed branches and low hanging wires. Has to be a real task getting to it all. It's just frusterating to be in the cold and dark and look out the window to see your neighbors across the street watching their big screen TV. Unfortunately, its the neighbors we don't know

A full freezer can stay good for 2 days (48 hours) if not opened. A half full freezer is 24 hours.

They say 4 hours for the fridge, but mine's gone 15 hours in this type of weather without opening it, and being very full.

In Vienna off Old Courthouse - power has been out since 8 pm last night. I hope it gets back on soon!

You can always put snow in a cooler, if you have one, and fill it with items from your fridge. Don't open the freezer.

There may not have been feet of snow but it was very, very heavy. Last night, around 8:30, I was outside shoveling and saw several transformers in my neighborhood blow. I also heard trees snapping and heard one large one fall.

We were without power for exactly 13 hours and 45 minutes. I actually didn't think that was so bad and considered us to be pretty lucky.

I'm at 18 hours and counting in falls church. Dominion said no estimate available for our house. Ugh.
