Politics?

Olbermann is off MSNBC, Romney won a NH GOP poll, DeMint won't go to CPAC because a gay GOP group will be there, Bachmann will give her own response to SOTU (in addition to Ryan's official GOP response), and perhaps there is even more politics going on. But all we talk about is Sarah Palin, how Obama smells, and whether Mary Cheh dresses like a dyke. Shouldn't we change the name of the forum to "The Don Rickles Replacement Auditions"?

Well then start a topic on a subject you care about instead of starting a thread about how other threads are so lame.

You're absolutely right though. This is why we Democrats can never have nice things.

I mentioned four political topics I cared about:
Olbermann moving on.
The NH poll, where Romney clobbered the field and Ron Paul came in second.
The conservative split over gays among their ranks.
Bachmann going rogue.

So, with apologies for providing the opening for this thread to go off into snarkland, and for lumping them all in one thread, I'll comment on those.

Olbermann's departure seemed very sudden, but a Times article (http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/01/22/olbermanns-msnbc-exit-was-weeks-in-the-making/?hp) says it was months in the making, and involves restrictions on his activities for some time, presumably in return for a nice payoff. Comcast, which will be taking over NBC, claims they were not involved, but it seems to me that NBC officials might have been acting to make their new overlords happy even if said overlords never said a word. What's your take?

It was expected that Romney would come in first, since he has had a high profile in NH since his Massachusetts days, but tripling the runner-up looks pretty good, especially since he's not highly regarded by the tea party, who won the top state party position. But the full results (http://politicalscoop.wmur.com/results-wmur-abc-news-nh-gop-2012-straw-poll) might be interpreted differently if all the tea party types were combined. Any opinions?

I find it surprising that the conservatives don't all jump at the chance to show that they love all God's children who see the political light on the right, but I guess prejudice conquers all. Am I showing my own prejudice?

Does Bachmann's move indicate that she sees herself more as tea party than Republican?

The tea party move is to have 2 separate anti-liberal voices every time Obama speaks so it's 2 against 1. Sends a subliminal message that Obama is unpopular. Pretty smart.

Romney is the original Obamacare, he's toast. Guliani is pro choice, he's toast. It's not gonna be Sarah either. It will be someone like Mc donnell in Va.

What about Hucklenuts? He's lean and mean southern and don't discount Dumbalina. She has not even begun to peak yet. These two are my personal dream team RNC ticket. But seriously, I'm not sure any established Republican is going to waste the opportunity to make real political hay by running against an incumbent. If unemployment ticks down even 1% and it will, Obama will be re-elcted--no matter what former VP Voldemort says.

Obama makes it only if unemployment at 6%

Romney is just destined for failure. In order to win, he has to drag three separate personalities with him:

1. The liberal, pro-choice, pro health care mandate Romney. How can he attack a guy he used to look like?
2. The ultraconservative Romney 2.0 who will be created to erase Romney 1.0, and who is necessary in order to defeat the wingnuts like Palin or whoever should take her place in the primary.
3. The centrist Romney 3.0 who must run like hell from Rommey 2.0 so that he can attract the independents.

In the end, his head will explode. No one can be a liberal, a conservative, and a centrist in five years.

If that were true, Reagan would have never had a second term. Obama can get elected if the unemployment rate is down to 8.5% and trending in the right direction.

Or if, as is fairly likely, something comes along that takes our attention away from unemployment.

That's what I said a year ago.

Unemployment is now down to 8.3% and trending in the right direction.

Yay! And I had totally forgotten about Bachman's crazy-eyes Tea Party response to the SOTU last year. Notice there wasn't one this year, heh.
