Stupid Panda Fans, so arrogant.

They could put stuffed pandas in the glass enclosures and tell visitors they are sleeping. Why do we need to force sad pandas to sit on concrete blocks for our pleasure? Are we sultans???

I'm sorry but your post made me laugh. Sorry. You are creative. I believe part of the reason for zoos and aquariums is for preservation and to increase public education about the need for preservation.

Are we educating lazy first world people to learn how to torture bears by making them live in cold cities on pee-stained concrete? All of the close-circuited cameras and the clamouring asians trying to take the pictures of their own feces covered pandas. I am so sick of them [the pandas]. Send them back to them. And they can take the disease filled mist spray back with them too. I have learned everything I need to know about sad pandas.

Pandas have a huge natural habitat. At one point they covered around 15-20% of China. Today most of them live in the mountains, so I don't think pandas mind the cold.

I like you, panda educator, but your pandas did not live on pee-stained concrete in China. People did not bang on glass enclosures and blind them with digital flashes. With the warm weather, crazy people will try to swim across the moat to embrace the sad pandas. People will be mauled by the sad pandas and the white tigers. We will all laugh and clap, like sultans, at their stupidity. When will it end???

Again with the "sultans" thing?

You know who else liked to inappropriately "live" with wild animals?

That's right.

Tippi Hedren.

Panda advocate, why stop with pandas? It's really not appropriate to have elephants in zoos -- much more inappropriate than pandas, don't you think? Ditto large cats and bears and apes. There really shouldn't be cage-style zoos at all anymore.

come to think of it, Zoos are pretty inappropriate all around. And aquariums that have mammals. And sharks. Let's get rid of them all.

Agree. The zoo are beautiful fun places for our human pleasure only. We are really no different than depraved sultans or craven dictators, our faces, shiny with popcorn grease, gaping stupidly at the horrible gray bottoms of the sad pandas. We exclaim loudly about their terrible animal smells and wonder idiotically if we could pet them and be their "friends".

sad panda is sad.

Seriously though, the elephant thing deeply disturbs me. I wish they always had company, like 5 - 8 elephants together. Even this would be a tiny herd compared to their natural habitat. It's just painful and cruel how these long-lived animals from complex matriarchal societies are kept alone. Same with the damn apes. It just kills me.

I've got no sympathy for the pandas. They've been riding this "cute" thing for far too many decades, and now they're just phoning it in. Also, what's up with the segregation of black and white fur? Is that some coded message about racism? Step it up, pandas!

I like the TEENY TINY "sad panda is sad" in pink

I do believe that Sultans of Sad Pandas would be a great name for a band.

And what about humans being forced to live in the cages we arbitrarily call "homes" and "houses"? That is just absolutely unnatural.

I tend to agree with this, actually. Most of these wild animals are just not meant for the small enclosures they are provided. While many -but far from all- zoos have made strides with more habitat-like settings for the animals and "enrichment"- it still is not the same. I'm often more disturbed then not when I go to a zoo.

I think it is important to educate and get people interested in the animals, too. But, I'm not sure how much zoos do this vs. just have families ooohing and ahhing over the fuzzy animals.

And, don't even get me started on circuses. People who attend these things should be ashamed of themselves.
