made in wool, wool tweed or other heavy winter fabric. Fashion Designers-It is winter here and in a good portion of the US. I want sleeves on my winter dresses. These are not sheaths with matching jackets either. I wanted a few dresses to wear to go out to dinner or to the theater. Please don't tell me that I should put a long sleeve shirt under the dress. I think that look is stupid if the dress isn't really jumper. In fact, I'm not crazy about the jumper look at all.
Does anyone have any good ideas of where to find some nice dresses, not fancy party dresses, like ones you might wear to the office but could be dressed up with different shoes or jewelry? |
| Boden has some (I have a couple plain black jersey ones, one wrap, one more empire waist). If you like wrap dresses, a real DVF is the holy grail -- I just got one and the fabric is great, really substantial. Got it at Betsy Fisher in DuPont Circle. |
| Ann Taylor had some nice long sleeve dresses. Personally I prefer long sleeve for winter. |

OP here. Thanks for the recs. I've looked at Boden many times; however, they do not appear to have petite sizes or if they do, the styles are limited. I only find the regular and tall. I'm a size 4P so I will swim in a lot of things. I saw some cute dresses at AT but the ones I wanted were not in my size. I might need to try the website.
Keep those recs coming. |
| Diane von Furstenberg launched collections in petite sizes. But even her regular sizes can fit you since all her dresses nowadays are super short. |
| Why not just put a cute cardigan over the cap sleeved/sleeveless dresses? |
| I think cap sleeves in general are evil. |
yes, who doesn't! What is the fashion industry thinking? |
| Thanks. I'm going to look for some DVF wrap dresses. |

Check the ralph lauren website and the macy's website for ralph lauren. I was on both sites yesterday and noticed several long-sleeved and 3/4-sleeved dresses that were nice. I personally like sleeveless dresses (with a cardigan or jacket in winter), but hate cap sleeves because they make my toned, muscular arms look like linebacker arms.
DVF or DVF-inspired wrap dresses are a great choice, too. |

Talbots has a few on sale right now and they have petite sizes.
But I also agree the DVF ones are pretty small. I find it annoying because the regular sizes are now significantly above the knee, which I don't like for work. |
| I agree about the need for long sleeves in winter! Unfortunately, I bought a gorgeous sleeveless dress in a heavy winter fabric, but I really need a nice cardigan to cover my arms. Where can a I one that is a bit on the dressy side? |
| I have a cap sleeve tweed dress that I always wear with a cashmere cardigan over it. PP, look at Macy's or Lord & Taylor for cashmere cardigans - often half off this time of year. |
| Boden's sizes run small, so you might be able to find things to fit a 4P. Try it - they include pre-paid return labels in every package so returns are easy. I learned about Boden on this site and its my new favorite place to buy clothes. |

Try the clearance section at Lord & Taylor at Tysons.
I was looking for one good 3/4 sleeve dress about a month ago - and found three, at about 80% off the original price! |
