An NHL team near Camden Yards would be an easier drive for MoCo and PGC residents than the drive to Potomac Yards.

Horsesh*t. Never mnd the fact that Alexandria is widely considered to "DC", given, you know, the fact that it's all of a little jog from the city proper. Camden yards is....... Baltimore.

Your agument is getting more pathetic with each page.

No, Alexandria is Alexandria, and not DC. No one in Alexandria says they are from DC or live in DC and no one in DC considers anything across the river to be DC.

The main problem is, Alexandria is in one corner of the metropolitan region. An arena like this that serves the fans of the region should be accessible to the region, and this location isn't. It's Ted's team to do as he pleases, but he is thumbing any goodwill he has had at 2/3 of his fan base with this move.

Look at a map before posting again.

From a transportation standpoint, it is absolutely in one corner. How long does it take someone from Rockville or Ashburn to get to Potmac Yards as compared to Gallery Place?

Who gives a f**k about Rockville?

At least 6,000 season ticket holders who won't be renewing into the new location.

Yes, people from Alexandria tell people they are from "DC" all the time. I've been doing it for 50 years. So have my siblings, classmates, neighbors and friends. If someone akss more I'll specify Old Town. If they want to quibble that that isn't 'technically' DC 'proper', I'll just stare at them like the D bag they are.

That's strange. The only time I tell people I am from "near DC" is when I am travelling internationally and they are unlikely to be able to identify where Alexandria is. I don't say I am "from DC" because that's untrue. Why would you say you are from a place that you don't actually live?

Maybe that PP needs to ask if he ITAH

I know, right? I always say I live at 13709 E. Old Post Lane, Fairfax Station, Va, United States of America.

Most normal people say they are from Virginia.

Source for that please. We'll wait.

The fact that "Northern Virginia" is part of the everyday lexicon proves you wrong. Keep trying!

I say that I’m from the “DC area” so people don’t associate me with our RWNJ governor.

Sorry, dude, I regularly drive to Baltimore. CY is on the south side of Baltimore, and you barely drive into Baltimore to reach CY. And, yes, during rush hour (i.e., weekday games), the drive to Baltimore would be easier than the drive to PY, which requires driving thru DC during rush hour and then hitting the outgoing rush hour traffic.

It opens up the market for the area north of the Potomac to middle branch right off 95 for an NHL franchise right near nicks fish house and port Covington on the water. Perfect for the view, convenience and before /after activities.

Baltimore will never get an nba or nhl franchise. It is never going to happen. The baltimore region isn’t growing and has practically no corporate base. Just stop.

Baltimore has 2 major sports teams now, both of which have higher attendance than their DC rivals, at least at the moment. And that higher attendance is generally not dependent on DC.

Guess VA will have to do without those inner MD dollars! Enjoy those Bethesda restaurants then.

If you think the team will sell enough tickets just from people who live in Alexandria, Potomac Yards, Del Ray and Pentagon City, you will be in for a surprise when the debt service on the bonds that comes from ticket sales and concession taxes doesn't cover the nut and taxpayers are left holding the bag.

I think much of the shock and disbelief being expressed by DC residents and electeds stems from the fact that most of this crowd have never spent time in NOVA other than a Silver Line trip to IAD. There is a tremendously wealthy, highly educated, law abiding, and yes, diverse population in NOVA that any sports team owner salivate over. The traffic hurdles are real, but with funding and planning they can be addressed.

Please name me a traffic problem that has been solved in the DMV in the last 30 years. Yes, I expect that Ted and a few politicians will hold at some point a press conference announcing "a well thought out plan" to resolve the traffic issues. My reply will be BS!

Given the physical constraints of this location it’s impossible to fix.

The best you’ll get is parking offsite with a shuttle. The question is: how many people are really going to put up with that extra hassle.

A shuttle will add at least another 20 minutes to the half-hour minimum each way I described below.

I guess all the investors and Alexandria City analysts have no idea what they are talking about. How could they miss that no one in MD, DC, or NoVA will go to Alexandria for a game? Guess next time they should ask anonymous forum posters from MD what they think will happen.

In reality, Arlington and Alexandria are full of parked cars with DC and MD plates regardless of traffic concerns. Even Wizards fans from La Plata will be driving in.

DP. I’m sure some people will still attend, but the additional hassle will turn off many others.

Probably balanced out by all the people who would go to a game in Alexandria but don't want the hassle of going into DC.

What is missing here is that the issue really is NOT between NoVa and DC/MD. The only beneficiaries of this proposed move reside in Alexandria. The move does not benefit those who live in Great Falls, Falls Church, Loudoun County, Reston, etc.

Sorry, dude. There aren't any words you can string together that will change the distance between two points. Baltimore is further. It's math.

Try doing the "math" of 14,000 cars competing with regular rush hour getting through Route 1 from 395 to Potomac Yards at 6:15 on a weeknight.

You think there are that many people in Alexandria, Del Ray and Potomac Landing to replace all of the fans from DC, northwestern Virginia and anything not Prince George's MD?
