Arizona Democratic House Member Gabrielle Giffords, wife of an astronaut, has been shot and killed From various internet reports, it seems a young white man shot her in the head and shot many others nearby. Spotty reports indicated something like 12 wounded, 4 dead.

Already posted it on another thread but Sarah Palin's PAC that she had placed on her Facebook page had placed Congressman Gifford in their sights:
"Palin's Facebook page now carries a map featuring 20 gun sights, one for each of the Democrats targeted this year by her political action committee SarahPAC. Three of the gun sights, those where incumbent Democrats have already announced their retirement, are colored red."

The total dead is up to 6 plus the Congresswoman, who was a mom of 2. There is a rumor that a child was also killed. So sad, and in the current climate, not all that surprising.

The hospital is saying that she is in surgery and NOT dead at this point. CNN has now retracted that she is officially dead. Sadly I can't imagine how she will survive it.

We're all exceedingly concerned for this person and her family. It's a despicable act. But why are you stating the race and gender of the possible perpetrator? That shouldn't matter.

They took religion out of schools. I bet the killer is from a non-religious education environment.

I put those in because they were in the articles I saw, like the references to 4 dead and 12 wounded. Mise en scene, as it were. Even if race and gender should not matter, I think in today's world, they are still of interest.

Really? In today's world, most newspapers do not identify the race--not PC.

I don't know why you would assume that. Eric Rudolph had a religious upbringing. Besides, religion is the parents' job, not the government's.

All of the news articles I have seen on this subject are putting the race.
