ECNL moving to school year not calendar

Bring on the cheaters (if that’s even what they are). If they have to “cheat” then they’re not that good anyway. Not sure what everyone is afraid of.

Denying RAE is like denying that the Earth is flat.

It’s impressive how some Q1’s parents join the cult of flat-earthers to skip admitting the loss of privilege of their kids. 😊

Yeah the BY crazies will say “my Jan child is the same developmentally as a Dec child, my child performs better because they work harder….”

But then the BY crazies will start foaming of the mouth when you mention that the age groups are changing….I wonder why….

And guess what? If you do SY with a single cutoff date not something like SY+60 theres still trapped players. Which means they entire reason for switching to SY doesn't make sense. Either solve the problem so everyone in a certain grade can play together or dont and if you dont allow everyone to play you might as well just stay BY.

SY without a 60 day accommodation so all players in a cerain grade nationwide can play on the same grouping just creates more issues and makes things more confusing.

As I've said before most BY people are indifferent to SY. They just think if youre changing to SY to address trapped players you should address ALL trapped players nationwide (ie SY+60) so issue goes away entirely.
SY minus 60 days is really just GY though and this was not a goal of US Soccer for youth leagues which is why they are allowing 8-1, 9-1 or 1-1 for leagues.

SY+60 is grade year without the regrades + holdbacks. Which is what everyone really wants.

Being able to group by grade in school would make things easy. But the problem is the regraders + homeschoolers who want their 16 year old freshman to play against 14 year olds.

Ahhh... Now SY+60 makes sense.

It should be called GY without the cheaters.

GY-Cheaters
It really would be just SY 9-1 with no exceptions for the 60 days start around here because the few states that start school before 9-1 aren't around the DMV. Makes sense for the leagues to go straight SY 9-1 and stopping the random exception game. They did think about all this for a year.

School soccer is GY of course so with most of the leagues at 9-1, MLSN/GA at (maybe) 1-1 and schools at GY, everyone gets an option and shouldn't throw stones at the other 2 asking for special exceptions for their kids.

Annoying? Yes. Correct? Again, yes.

What is really annoying is that the federation has done nothing to address RAE. Hopefully some leagues will stay BY so April-August kids get a chance to shine somewhere.

That would be chaos for both clubs and the alphabet leagues. Most parents and kids are unaware of RAE or they are smart enough to not care about it. But doing what you are suggesting puts RAE front and center. If you think soccer parents were whiny crazy lunatics before, wait till after.

Idk, MLSN and their flavor of biobanding isn't causing mass chaos and destruction. Predicting chaos is hyperbole and just fear of change.

It's interesting watching the GY cheaters pretend to be SY. They're completely aware that SY is a slippery slope to GY.

This is why they're pushing against SY+60 they know if it was implemented GY cheaters are 100% barred from participating. Unless they choose to play with kids their own age.

But the SY60 scheme to carve out special exemptions to play down a year for non-held back kids born in July (but not the first 2 days in the month) and August depends on a states' school entry rules, not national ones. I don't have a July kid so I wasn't the doofus that is inventing this bizarre pipe dream.

SY+60 = a valid birth cert if born after 9/1. If born 7/1-9/1 a valid birth cert + proof of grade enrolled.

The proof of grade enrolled keeps kids a grade up from playing down.

SY+60 is the only way to make SY work nationwide and completely address all trapped players. It also has a side benefit of barring regrades and homeschoolers.

Never say never. That's how a slippery slope works.

A single 9/1 SY cutoff addresses the immediate need. However once everything is in motion they'll likely implement the 2 month additional window in some form. If they dont there will still be trapped + complaining parents/clubs.

That won't work, I see why they went with 9-1 now instead of 8-1. Too many kids are held back a year in school that are born in July and August in states that have 9-1 or later dates for eligiblity to make the SY60 ruse to work.

They would just skip those steps and not open a Pandora's box and go straight to GY if they wanted. Which they don't. Maybe BY in 10 years though. Best of luck to your July child.
