You sound like my BIL who drove an H3 for a while because of the built in video system for their kid.

When their budget really should have only gotten them a used corolla and a handheld DVD player.

Shit, we make 3 times what they did and we wouldn't dream of spending that kind of dough on a gas guzzler or gadgets. My husband drives a nicer car than me because he is in the car 2 hours a day, but it is still a ford hybrid.

It just feels better and it really does add to the quality of life every day if you drive every day! GPS, heated seats, great sound system, screens in back for the kids, the new car smell. This is somewhere to spend the money IF it will improve your life (only you can decide) and if you can afford it.

I drive 15 miles a day. Since I spend 30 minutes a day in the car, I don't care how much better the Mercedes is than my Honda. Capiche?

I drive an Altima with heated seats, back up camera, great safety features, gas mileage, etc. I didn't opt to get GPS because I can plug my phone into the auxiliary and get narrated directions though my phone. The ride is very smooth and I've had lots of people mention how much leg room it has for a sedan, comfort, etc.

I used to drive a BMW (purchased new) and that thing broke down all the time. I'm so much happier in my little Altima. I can understand wanting comfort, safety, etc., but you don't need a luxury brand to get all that. There are sooooo many things I'd rather spend my money on now than a fancy name brand for my car. I think people who spend a ton on their car and constantly get it detailed/treat it like their "baby" are boring.

10:02 - we had an Altima for a while. That was a nice car. It didn't have all the features you mention, but it was very comfortable. We probably should have kept that car - long story....

Some of the built in stuff that you could buy aftermarket isn't worth it. It costs a ton to update the gps in a built in system. No thanks-I'm good with my phone or a store bought gps. My husband actually searched for a car that didn't have that system built in.

I think it's funny that the luxury car posters don't seem to understand the responses to their posts. It keeps going like this:

Luxury poster: I love my [insert luxury car]. It's worth it to pay more because of xyz.

Responding Poster: I can afford a [insert luxury car], but can get xyz without spending that much.

Luxury poster: You're just jealous because you can't afford [insert luxury car].

I think what it boils down to, is image. Yet they say it's a matter of quality. But they keep coming back to defend why luxury SUV's as worth it. If you know it is, why the need to defend yourself? It's all still a matter of trying to prove something, "message" or whatever. I totally don't buy it or get it.

Getting married and having kids is a vastly overrated life choice. If I had to do it over, I wouldn't have made the choices I've made. I was happier being single and just dating and probably would have enjoyed a series of long term relationships.
