Typically by mid to late season, all teams get better, and there are more opportunities to scout our opponents (in games, on film, etc.), so games should be closer. Yorktown coaches and players obviously did their homework.

On the other hand, and I don’t know the roster status of either team and just speaking in general, teams will get “worse”. We are talking about HS kids. Injuries happen, bumps and bruises take their toll, legs get tired, focus can be lost, seniors can start looking forward to their “last summer”, freshmen are not used to a longer season.

Things are constantly in flux, what happened last month is very different than today. Trying to rank teams based on past performance can be useless, both positive and negative. We are speaking of HS kids and not professionals.

Random takes from someone down south with not a dog in the fight...

-Langley a good team for sure. Solid win vs. Cosby. I think they are a little below the "Great" teams but could beat them possibly.

-Madison and Yorktown are going to make playoff runs if I was a betting man but I don't think they win it all this year, It'll stop in Quarters/Semis of States. Great programs and great coaches.

-Robinson and Battlefield look like best two teams and have history of being there at the end of the year.

-Cosby could catch one of the Nova teams this year in States if they keep improving and learning from Langley loss.

-Freedom South Riding is having a phenomenal season (10-0). With wins against legit teams. 4/29 at Battlefield could be a great one. Huge Public school match up.

Happy Sunday!

Broadneck appeared to have their strength at midfield and preferred dodging/shooting from the top. The Yorktown goalie made some great saves, which seemed to irritate them and launch even more low percentage shots.

Have said it before and will say it again: I have seen too many of these teams/ players looking to shoot a 15 yard sidearm/ underhand shot on a single level and expect to score all the time. Watched more than a few “ great” teams lose because they are relying on low percentage shots and offense.

If you look at the PLL metrics site they had a 15yd 2 point line and moved it to 13yd. The numbers:
15yd is 14.7%
13yd is 18.9%

All things equal we are not talking about pro goalies, however, we are not talking about pro shooters either.

While you can get away with hitting longer shots against lesser opponents in high school but when you play a quality opponent 1 in 5 will not lead to wins against good teams.

Players need to learn and coaches need to work the ball inside. All flash and no substance will lose you games.

McLean appears to be trending down. Will be interesting to see how they look against Yorktown.

I don't know. They've lost 3 games by a total of 5 goals to their peers. While the game against Yorktown this week will be interesting it really doesn't matter much as the one in the district semifinal.

What was the final score yesterday? They were down a lot at the half and lost one of their top players?

1. Robinson- A lil shaky vs Stone Bridge
2. Battlefield- Hadn’t seen much from them but now I have. They DOMINATED Mclean much more than the score showed.
3. Freedom SR- Cannot wait for them and Battlefield to get after it.
4. Langley- They continue to stack wins after their overblown slow start.
5. Madison- They really need to get healthy, do believe they’re top 2/3 when they have their guys.
6. Yorktown- What a win for the boys in sky blue. They are the last of 6 true contenders IMO.
7. Mclean- Little bit of a wake up call the past couple weeks. L to Langley, narrow win over Herndon, and then were not that competitive vs Battlefield. Still the best of the rest, but not the powerhouse I thought they might be.
8. Cosby- They are clearly good enough to stay with Langley, and that’s good enough to let them have the 8 spot.
9. Hayfield- Undefeated, couple decent wins, that’s all it takes to get 9 these days.
10. Oakton- Hello again old friends. Finally figured out how to win again, even if it’s not pretty. In all honesty, this should probably be West Pos spot but I haven’t seen them play.

Oakton is a 4 or 5 seed in their own conference. Maybe 1 quality win, multiple bad losses. Guess we are ranking on what we hope they could be not what they actually are. Other teams have haduch harder schedule and performed the same.

Game was much closer than the score suggests, McLean went down a key player early on and still was fighting for the win until Battlefield sunk a couple right in the last couple minutes to extend their lead.

11-8

Can we please keep this forum civil and calm. First it was the Langley kids, and now it seems to be actual parents speaking this way to each other this way. Everyone please treat each other with respect or the moderators will IP ban you.
