Please HELP us figure out where to GO!!!

Ok, the basics:
*we have a budget of $2000
*there is 2 adults and our DC who os 20 months old.
*we prefer to go overseas
*we are thinking feb or march and are flexilble with dates
*we would like to go for 4-7 days, hoping to get a good deal on an apt type thing for a week
*we have looked in argentina (flights look too expensive), and parts of italy but we feel a bit lost.
Can someone provide assistance? Is there a travel agent I should call and give them my specifics? Thanks.

The budget of $2k for three people is kind of a killer when you are talking about overseas. How long do you want to stay?

Budget being an issue, in years past, I got some great deals on go-today.com. I don't know if it's still a viable site.

A caution on overseas travel is that even if you do a lapchild and not get a seat, you're going to have to pay a fee for your child to travel. It's not like domestic and free.

Another thought is that you can google hotels in areas that you would want to travel. I've found that staying in non-American hotels overseas the prices can be very reasonable.

Oops, sorry, you said 4-7 days.

Hate to break it to you, but airfare is pretty much going to wipe out your budget.

Costa Rica?

I would definitely second Costa Rica - I lived in Argentina for a while and definitely would love to go back, but Costa Rica was fantastic and much cheaper.

the farthest you can go is probably mexico or the caribbean. like other pps said, 2000 would only barely (if not even) cover airfare to most places.

With your budget, you can't go far. But you can fly BWI to cancun, for example, and once there rent a car and go somewhere like Tulum--beautiful beaches, interesting ruins--or do an all inclusive on the maya riviera. Costa rica is also a possibility--manuel antonio is a nice area for kids.

You could almost make it to Machu Picchu on that budget if you find flights in the $600 range (or have 35,000 miles).

Paris or Mexico.

Will she be able to do Costa Rica on just $2k, though? I am looking to book a trip to CR's neighbor to the south and the tickets for 2 adults are $1400.

I had never heard of spirit air and I just checked it out. How is it so cheap!?

I just looked it up and looks like many reviews are negative. What was your experience like with the airline? It would save us a ton of money.
