Why does Obama continue to do dumb things like this?

Dumb is invading a country on false premises. Calling the owner of a football team is merely a misplaced priority.

Ok but that makes for a harder headline. Vick is going to sign a $50m plus contract next year, he's amazingly talented in his field, of course he was going to get hired. Why does he do stuff like this? Who is advising Obama?

Two points: First, Obama has spoken and worked in favor of giving those who have served their time a second chance, so it looks to me like he was talking about a principle, not about Vick per se. Second, the owner said he called to talk about two things, but I can't find what the second was; it may be that the second was the real point of the call and the comment about Vick was a compliment intended to ease into the main topic.

In short, we are judging on incomplete, and (perhaps intentionally) misconstrued information. That does not mean I don't think Obama is capable of screwing things up, nor detract from Jeff's implication that this is, in any case, a triviality that does not affect the country's welfare.

Like when Obama surged into Afghanistan. A country that did not attack us. Obama has no idea what he is doing that is why he has the exact foreign policy and War strategy that Bush (who apparently did know what he was doing). Is Guantanamo closed yet? WHAT A LOSER.

I don't see anything wrong with what he did. Whether you like him or not, Vick is a GREAT example of how to change your life for the better. He learned from his mistakes and has went on to create an even more successful career than he lost. Although, I guess I could see how people would rather have seen him fail and become destitute after prison, but that didn't happen.

Vick is nothing, but a THUG with athletic talent. If he was not talented he'd be like every other loser thug out there, probably in and out of the penitentiary. Hopefully he has enough brain cells to keep out of trouble, but its doubtful, unless he has strong handlers.

Where is Philadelphia again? Pennsylvania, you say? A swing state that typically is critical in close presidential elections?

Will this swing PA to Obama 2 years from now? Of course not. Did it factor into the decision? I'd be shocked if it didn't.

What are you talking about? Everyone knows that Al Qaeda was the perpetrator, they were there in the country, and the Taliban regime, which actually governed Afghanistan, refused to kick them out. That is a point of fact.

Dog fighting should not be a felony and I doubt Vick knew it was when he was so foolishly involved. And if this was anyone but a high profile celebrity, zero chance they would have served that much time.

Guy spent two years in custody, lost tens of millions of dollars, went bankrupt, almost lost his job - pretty sure he has MORE than paid his debt for the bad things he did.

And trust me, I do find dog fighting bad - but I also think sport fishing is bad, many forms of hunting, bullfighting, cock fighting, the way we slaughter chickens, pigs and cows, etc. So just can't too worked up about the mistreatment of pit bulls - a breed bred for this exact purpose.

While I appreciate much of what you're saying, you may not realize that sweet little dogs like beagles are used to train fighting dogs and get horribly maimed or killed in the process. Also, many people would say that the breed of pit bull is not inherently mean--just that they're genetically strong with strong jaws and then are trained to be mean fighters/killers. (No, I don't own a pit bull and wouldn't--too scared of them.)

The second thing was about a plan to increase usage of alternative energy at the Eagles stadium. It's seems to be a throw-off line now with all the fuss over Vick.

Obama hater here, and I had no problem with this. Actually I think it is kind of a smart move for Obama. Vick is one of the very rare examples of a guy who may actually have been rehabilitated by prison time -- yes, dog fighting is heinous, but he has done his time, is working hard in his profession, and he seems to be trying to get kids to not follow in his footsteps -- so Obama gets a two-fer: using Vick as an example of the possibility that convicts can be redeemed and deserve a second chance, and to burnish his regular-guy-cred with male football fans, who generally are ok with Vick now. Obama has made many gaffes, but this is not one of them.

pit bulls may not be inherently mean (didn't say they were), but they do have very strong jaws and an amazing tenacity to not give up and not let go. So I think the breed should be outlawed.

Get a collie or a lab. Zero chance they are going to fight in a ring.

I'm with you re the outlawing of pitbulls. We have a beagle and a sheltie.
