OP where did you apply?

The whole 2 hours she was there. I never left the room. GDS Pre-K. 2 years ago.
I thought we did not have a chance in hell.

Friend's DC melted down at playdate - twice. Didn't get in. WIS.

Wow. And he/she was admitted?

Yes, she was! She would only semi-calm down when I was right beside her, so I never left the "playdate" room.
We applied to 3 schools and she was accepted to the ones were she cried (one of them being GDS, the other Norwood) and not to the one were she was a model child (WIS), go figure!

DC had temper tantrum in parking lot - kind, random woman offered to assist, only fueling his rage - "this is not a playdate - none of my friends are here!" Nearly died when I discovered, 15 minutes later, that "random" woman was running playdate + part of admissions team.

DC admitted.

It seems like admissions people have probably seen many crying children on school playdates over many years. I'd think they care more about how the child, and the parent, recover than about the fact that the child cried.

I've got no real basis for this statement other than common sense. It's just speculation on my part.

Ah! Then there's hope!

Well, he did provide an excellent example of his critical thinking skills, LOL!

my son did not cry, but did refuse to leave for the playdate with the teacher he didn't know. finally went but then i was called in fairly soon because he was insisting he wanted to leave. when i arrived, he said very loudly, " i don't want to stay here with that woman...". they let us come back again and this time let me hang out outside the room. he was a model child this time.

i think it's just a developmental thing too. he was completely fine about separating from me in a situation like that six months later...and it's never really been a problem since.
