It means $$$$$ won out because the worlds biggest buyers of thier product wants those september born studs.

MLSN/GA has been building a relationship with English clubs. So this makes sense (sort of) but I believe English model is SY plus biobanding.

Pretty sure this is the English model

I could see mlsnext going SY eventually but not because of this. I’m sure the English clubs would be just as happy to buy our January born studs who have grown up and benefited from our BY system.

Isn't it possible that "adoption English model" might me something besides age grouping??

Yes, that's the ECNL's primary focus

Maybe they're going to group multiple ages together more, instead of an age group for every year up to U16? Age cutoffs matter a lot less if 2-3 years are grouped together.

The English system doesn’t do that. They may have a few age groups classified together in a “phase” but they are still different teams within each age group.

Ah, just looked at it and that seems right. Maybe I saw bigger age group jumps somewhere signifying the phases. From what I just read, if I had to guess and assume that rumor was true, my new guess would be that they want to put clubs/academies into "categories" 1-4, which they are sort of already moving towards.

Strong possibility ECNL going based off school grade starting 26/27 or at least that’s what their president wants. Argue all you want but it’s going to happen.

ECNL also might get into a college league for University P2P teams.

Soccer is getting ready for a major shift be ready for it.

Any idea what mlsnext’s main objection in moving to SY is? It’s going to be so difficult to stay BY when all of the u8-u12 ages are moving to SY. Obviously the English clubs with a 9/1 cutoff are able to compete internationally. SY also easier for college recruiting which is where the majority of boys playing mls academy or mlsnext will end up. Is it just that they don’t want to be told what to do?

The policy from us soccer in November 2024 didn’t give permission for this. I understand they can do whatever they want for showcases, those are exhibition games, but can they just do whatever they want across the board?

US Soccer is about like the NCAA. They're almost worthless.
