Trader Joe's

The quality of their products has really gone downhill. I just opened a can of Trader Joe's spaghetti sauce that has dried sauce caked on the threads of the jar and under the rim of the lid. Gross. This is the last straw for me with Trader Joe's. Anyone know if the sauce I opened is safe to eat? Unfortunately I threw it into a large pot of sauce before I realized it wasn't manufactured properly and couldn't scoop all of it out.

I am no food expert, but I think if the seal was still intact then it should be fine. You didn't see any mold or anything to imply it was bad? If it has bacteria, I think cooking it to high temp (maybe 165, like chicken) would kill the bacteria. I didn't think caked on tomato sauce around the rim of a sealed jar implied that it was bad, as long as the seal was intact. Did the jar make a pop when you opened it?

Please tell me which TJ this is so I know it's not the one I go to in Tysons Station.

What else have you experienced that made you lose faith in TJ's? Please don't tell me that you're abandoning them just because one jar of spaghetti sauce was improperly sealed?
Tell us more about the negative incidents that you have encountered. I love TJ's and need more evidence that they have gone "downhill" before I write them off.

Biting into food that tastes moldy (no visible mold), opening sausages that have gone bad, shrinking packaging, ice cream that has been thawed and re-frozen so it has crystals in it....can't think of what else at the moment.

We love TJs--the one in Bethesda. Haven't had problems.

Np here. I've had problems with meat going bad quickly (sevens corners va and Rockville pike) but it hasn't been enough to keep me away

Wow, what an unfortunate string of incidents for you, OP. I haven't had any problems so I will continue to be a regular. TJ's makes me happy!

have bought ice cream that had melted and refroze more than once. stopped buying ice cream there. also had a bag of rice that did have mold in it. they took it back. have continued to buy rice. often have issues with produce.

other than that no issues.

I shop at the DC store and have had only a few problems. Really, my issues have typically been that some of the produce packaging traps moisture, so we're occasionally out of luck if we don't consume it within the first couple of days.

Please explain how this is a problem isolated to Trader Joes and not something that happens at Whole Foods, Giant, Shoppers, Harris Teeter, or Target? I mean, seriously, it happens at ALL STORES.

I have only experienced this once in my entire life from Giant and can't remember any other times getting bad food from other grocery stores.

Was answering the PP above; Tyson's is not in Maryland, Genius.
