Though you are correct on most points, Carson is the official middle school assigned to the Oakton pyramid.

I've never seen that listed anywhere.

Look on the FCPS pyramid locator page.

Yes. That is what one would call "in name only."

Telling people not to talk about your neighborhood's bribery is a sure fire way to keep the conversation front and center.

+1. The situation with Walney Oaks is very suspect. Who pulled strings for that neighborhood?

I think they will move the rest of Brookfield back to try and 'cover the bribery tracks'--its sooo obvious right now looking at the map that this wealthy neighborhood got special treatment.

The reasonable thing to do would be to move the Chantilly Mews area back to Chantilly and move some other parts of Brookfield to Westfield, or move the balance of Bull Run to Westfield.

Look up the Oakton pyramid, Carson is, technically, Oakton’s HS middle school. We all know that it is a split feeder and that Oakton is feed by 4 MS’s but Carson is, technically, Oakton’s MS.

At one point in time, more of the schools at Carson fed Oakton. I know that Fox Mill was at Oakton and was moved to SLHS but stayed at Carson.

The Skyview pyramid makes sense. Yes, there are other schools close by that could fit into Skyview but the schools but the boundary makes sense. Hughes doesn’t have space for FMES and FMES families don’t want to move to Hughes. Some would make the move if FMES stayed at SLHS but most don’t want that.

The reality of Western Fairfax is a series of neighborhoods that are reasonably compact with a lot of schools close by that you could easily see at a wide variety of those schools that isn’t unreasonable. People are attached to their neighborhoods, and their pool communities, and don’t want those to be split up.

But we know the Bull Run thing won't happen b/c Seema Dixit is calling the shots in that area and she is protecting her neighborhood and trying to take advantage of the situation to boost her neighborhood high school at Westfield's expense.

And the Brookfield thing won't happen b/c the areas that should be moved to Westfield have a super secret deal with someone in reid's office.

So what will logically happen? Westfield down to 1600 kids in a building that seats 2800+?

I don’t anyone is arguing otherwise

Leaving 1000+ open seats at a high school would be pure insanity, so yes, sounds like something this SB would go for. As long as it pisses the fewest people off and gets them the most political donations.

I think I remember reading on one of these threads--quite some time ago--that they convinced Reid they belonged at Chantilly because they could "hear the Chantilly band practice." (Likely not true.)

I think this was one of the first groups Reid met with. They are almost exactly halfway between Westfield and Chantilly--and close to both. The only egress from that community is on to Walney Rd--right across from Walney Estates which is Westfield. They could have a bus stop there and pick up both neighborhoods if there were few enough kids there. It makes no sense at all to leave Walney Oaks at Chantilly and send Chantilly Lace area that is much, much closer to Chantilly--and should be at Chantilly.

It was probably the Westfield band but they knew better than to admit that.

Very foolish of Reid to rashly promise verbally not to move a neighborhood when she obviously had absolutely no knowledge of the issues and geography in that area. Her staff should have told her not to make promises in public.

I'm sure she was like, what's the big deal? its just one neighborhood..... (One of the most logical areas to move...)

Anonymous wrote:Meren when you read this let me share with you something that may help answer one of your points. If the school board wanted true pyramids they would have encouraged the adjustments at all three levels , elementary, middle and high school. To your point at the last meeting. You want to ask is there an assigned middle school but don’t want the superintendent to make true changes. This will be another messed up boundary because they won’t allow the professionals the freedom to work properly. Too many people just trying to fight for what they want rather than the greater good.

They did TRY to do this.

Currently only ONE school from Carson feeds Oakton. It may be in the same division, but it's not a feeder and obviously now it is going to be 100% Skyview's feeder.

She did the same thing with Wolftrap without considering capacity at Thoreau or the massive attendance island she was creating.

It was terrible what they did to Thoreau with Wolftrap. All while using incorrect information about Kilmer’s enrollment. They are a disgrace. Should have sent all of Wolftrap to Kilmer!
