If there's no new report, there's only speculation and plenty of that on this thread. Are they keeping the young man there for a reason? or is he still there because he had already planned to be there

They took his passport and he is under constant LE supervision, so keeping him. His father has arrived.

But he's free to request it and leave if he wants, so he's not really being detained.

I’ve read mixed facts re that. He is being watched 24/7 in a room by police.

Swimming is not part of VA public school curriculum. That is entirely on the family to teach.

- signed a VA public school grad with two VA public school teenagers.

VA public school grad here too. Arlington to be specific.
I had to swim in 4th grade and again in 10th grade for PE.
AND forced to take showers (so cold). The PE teacher checked us all off exiting the shower stalls - it affected our grade.
Of course, it was hard to pull on tight jeans with wet skin.

I think it’s great and all that Loudoun County Sheriff’s sent two deputies but why? They have zero jurisdiction in the DR and someone (aka taxpayers) are most likely paying their way.

If he lies to FBI that may be a US crime.

Assume parents got him legal help.

His uncle claims Ribe has a girlfriend. Wonder if she or her friends have seen him have a temper?

Good Lord, the girl drowned. Not all men are rapists. He may be ta cheater, but it’s wild to think he’s been seen willingly with her on video all over the resort within intent to harm her.

We don't even know that's he a cheater. Just because they were hanging out doesn't mean anything actually happened.

You’d be ok with your partner looking like he did in the pics/video? And alone on a beach?

Drunk, with his arm around someone? Meh. I didn't see any effort to kiss, hold hands, or grope. Did you?

Um..his arm was completely around her shoulders.

DP
The security video showed holding hands, for support of course.

the footage of them heading down the path toward the beach, they are fully arm-in-arm -- each around the other, equally

And they both seem Hammered.

I agree. Why are they there? So bizarre.

Can someone please explain why people care about this story so much? The girl is obviously dead in the ocean. The why does not matter at this point and it obvious everyone was drunk. No one is responsible for this. Are we seriously searching the darn ocean for a drunk dead person?

Well, she is a symbolic case to convey that tourist safety is taken seriously. So many young people vacation there, imagine the blow to tourism if they stopped. We also need to send a message that American students got country's backing so don't mess with them.

Which makes it even more unlikely that he is in anyway involved, as he's purposefully staying there to assist with the investigation.

Because she’s Indian and the news media doesn’t want to seem racist. It’s the truth.

She isn’t American. Very glad we’re there to help. But just a fact.
