What is jawboning?

Threatening changes in laws or regulations to retaliate for something the government can’t directly stop, such as political speech.

Seems obvious this is what DeSantis did.
And then worse.

He’s admitted it.

Openly admits to suppressing free speech and targeting businesses over their politics. He needs to get his ass sued off for this.
. Oh he definitely is. I’m sure he is regretting starting this, and he will not be the one finishing it.
There is a very sad delusional poster on this thread that doesn’t understand any of this.

Disney has already lost once. Granted it was trying to get summary judgment. The reasoning by the judge matched the Youtuber mentioned above.
There was also an Obama judge who saw how bad the case was and walked away from it, giving the excuse that a distant cousin owns some stock.

I am sure Disney can spread more cash around vs DeSantis can. SCOTUS like a their cash.

When did Disney lose on a summary judgment request? They asked that the case be dismissed as moot.

I think this was all just such a strategic mistake on desantis part. Proving that not all press is good press. Attacking one of the most profitable business in his state? And also one beloved by middle America (even the ones who hate gays love a WDW trip and a marvel movie). He forgot the cardinal bully rule of only punching down and picking on the unpopular kids.

They didn't. These are two separate issues:

Why do people like the PP post things that are blatantly false.

My mistake. It was denying a motion to dismiss. State case filed by Central Florida Board against Disney seeking to void the contracts made by Reedy Creek.

Your own link says Disney sought something and were denied. It also says that the ruling was a win for the Central Florida tourism district.

The link PP offered clearly shows that there has not been a decision against Disney in the federal case Disney brought against DeSantis . So the BS from the prior poster (disney already lost once and the case is so bad even sn obama judge did not want it ) was just BS. Disney’s case is actually pretty strong and thanks to DeSantis who did not lose an opportunity to say during speeches and in writing that he retaliated against Disney to punish disney’s comments on the dont say gay bill (Disney actually offered as evidence DeSantis’ own book and statements). deSantis thought this BS would help him with MAGA and get the nomination over Trump, and that he would have quietly fixed things with Disney later. Instead he did not get Maga votes, moderates and independents saw him like a crazy and refused to support him, and Disney decided that DeSantis was not Trump and could easily be crashed.

A judge simply refused to toss the state case filed by the new board against Disney so the case is still there. This has nothing to do with the federal case. The fact rhat DeSantis himself went public with “hummm lets forget about this mess and maybe Disney can drop its lawsuit” tells you all you need to know about who is going to win this case and who us going to be crashed. Oh and FL taxpayers are going to foot the bill

An inspector general is looking into buying Disney passed for employees. The problem is the IG's scope is not limited. Disney should be worried about the valuations they were assessing to Disney property when they were paying taxes.

Paying taxes to the district they controlled?
Exactly. I remember the county auditor when I was growing up valued his own house at $25000

Disney paid the taxes to keep up all the infrastructure they paid to build, such as the roads, water treatment plant, electrical plant, solid waste dump, etc. There would be no point in shorting tax money when it went to these things.

More evidence of retaliation. Suddenly the government of Florida is going after Disney on all fronts. Remember when desantis said authorities should start carefully inspecting Disneys rides? The message is if you cross us in any way, we will come sfter you, audit your taxes, order inspections, check everything is by code, look in any wrinkle of your business to see if there is any way we can hurt you snd in the process we will make you waste time and money

Makes no sense. They have to provide enough taxes to pay for the services Disney needs. If they don't, they only hurt themselves.

Meanwhile they also pay taxes to Orange and Osceola counties, and they make the assessments there.
