Eh. But he was still willing to do the show for money. He’s not the first broke athlete but he made a choice to do that super cheesy show so obviously he can’t really say he had no interest in it. |
https://www.wsj.com/style/travis-kelce-chiefs-taylor-swift-relationship-413ce0d7?st=0fhkr9suqmabb74&reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink He says in the article that he needed the money his first year in the NFL because he didn't understand that he wouldn't get paychecks during the offseason. |
| Whether he did the dating show because he blew through his NFL money or he did it because any attention is good attention... neither is a good look, but whatever. He was young and immature. |
No. One of her fans died due to extreme heat at her concert. Even Taylor was gasping for breath that night. She delayed her shows by a few days due to weather and the death and will now still be in Brazil today. |
I was a skeptical one upthread and find what you added to make the story more believable. Travis has a good point about being dumb with money. I remember reading that a lot NFL players waste their money and can end up broke quickly if they aren’t careful. It’s a lot of money to get in a short period of time when one is young and still maturing. Good for him if this is true and he was so open and honest about it. |
Thanks for posting that! I hope people read this. This shows why people in the NFL universally love this guy. He may not be a Rhodes Scholar, but he lost his scholarship and stayed committed to being in school and got a job to pay for it (before the scholarship may have been reinstated). And he graduated. And he just loves life. It comes through in his podcast - he pretty much laughs his way through it, just having fun. |
| He lost his scholarship for failing a drug test. He’s lucky to have his older brother who has backed him a number of times in his football career, it seems. There’s no way he needed to do a reality show because he wouldn’t get paid in the NFL for a few months. He has an incredibly supportive family who could have been there for him. He also could have picked up shifts at Home Depot if it came to that. He wanted the fame. It’s ok! |
I think it is more he is a fun-loving extrovert who likes to try new things because why not and he is not shy. |
Yeah, I see what you're saying - his reports are that it was a pretty quick buck, but who knows. But he did really screw up his finances. He talks about it all the time because he doesn't want younger players to make the same mistakes he made. He's also very much on record as to why he lost his scholarship. My only point was that he stayed committed to finishing college despite losing that scholarship. There's a lot to like about the guy, even when he sometimes comes across as a bit of an oaf. He's an oaf with a huge heart. Any of us could do worse. |
This is true. The NFL has taken steps over the last 5-8 years to combat this. There are new player education courses on finances and investing. I follow a few players on social media and they have done some good videos on what it's like to go from nothing to $$$ so quickly. It's interesting learning the ins and outs from them. I had no idea that players had to buy their equipment. Meaning, if they want to keep a specific jersey or their helmet, they have to buy that one from the team. Otherwise all the equipment is considered "rented" and must be returned after each game/season. I also just learned this week that after a player is done in the NFL, as long as they are a vested player, they get medical, dental, vision insurance for 5 years after their final season for themselves and their dependents. |
He definitely benefited from having such a stellar older brother. I remember the story Travis and Jason told on their podcast about how Jason was playing in the NLF and bought himself a new, fully loaded truck. He then got a brand deal/endorsement with a local Philly car dealership that included a free vehicle. He knew that Travis' car was crap that hardly worked, so he gave his new truck to Travis. Travis had the truck for for mere hours before he drove it into Cleveland and left it unlocked with the key fob inside and it was stolen. |
DP- Many artists collaborate to learn a new style or experiment and make themselves better or more interesting musicians. They may travel to another country and get new songs etc (Beatles in India is a famous example). Taylor does it to make more money and expand her fan base. The other artists want process and craft while Taylor wants dollars and fans. If you believe in capitalism and mass marketed music/entertainment as an end and business you see nothing wrong with her path. If you want to see art, harmony and interesting/new experimentation in music you probably will look beyond Taylor to fill that desire. |
You're quite a mind reader! What else does Taylor want, wise one? How do you know her so well?! |
| I thought he came across as very likable in the WSJ article |
Ha- Taylor left Easter eggs of course that is why so many fans “know” her! Seriously though there was an article about it so other people have similar thoughts and laid out an argument. If you look at the “impact” of the collaborations on her music style it is pretty obvious that she is attempting to get more fans. She is not over the fact that John Mayer or whoever wrote her off for her mainstream songs. |
