DP. It’s odd that you feel the need to constantly obsess about Langley’s boundaries when they don’t affect you at all. It’s always people who don’t have kids at Langley who insist in making every thread about it. As you say - nothing about this will be decided for years (if ever), so why are you worrying about it?

DP. What do you mean "if ever"? Isn't the Western high school on the fall 2021 bond?

I have no idea. At this point, it’s just white noise.

More than white noise.

Why do some of you Langley people call the western high school “mythical” and then imply it could in no way affect kids in western Fairfax currently bussed over 10 miles to attend Langley? Why aren’t you focusing your energies on getting a new school built that could shorten travel times?

I call it mythical because I’ve had kids in FCPS for almost 20 years and this “western high school” has always been mentioned but never acted on. I’ll believe it when I see it, and I’m not at all concerned about “focusing my energies” on it. You, on the other hand, seem quite invested, so knock yourself out.

It's been a mythical creature for over 30 years. It even predates the Sully Magisterial District existing. Pre and post Aldrin existing the mythical secondary school was to appear at Baron Cameron. It's most recent incarnation was at Hutchison. A good place for it would have been where the Islamic Saudi Academy popped up near Carson. FX or FCPS used to rent the Old Mount Vernon HS to them and now it's becoming a community center but NO special tax district like Reston or Mclean. Herndon and Vienna are towns and town taxes fund their community centers. Reston bond has been paid off since 1999.

I don't get the $13.5m site acquisition cost since there is public land.

Westfield opened in 2000. Prior to naming, it was referred to as the West County High School. That was 21 years ago. Are you sure this isn't the "mythical" high school you are referring to?

Great! I look forward to hearing more about the plans to move forward.

No Westfield is in a different area. The mythical high school or secondary school was near Frying Pan Park [south Reston-Herndon] and at the Baron Cameron site next to Aldrin. Pre Aldrin most or all of it's attendance area went to Forestville.

Frisch and the other liars on the school board have only increased skepticism about their intentions by earmarking money for a new ES in Fairfax/Oakton and then claiming it could be used to renovate an old building in Dunn Loring instead (in order to save a dog park in Oakton).

If they approve a bond that calls for spending money on a new western high school and then use the money for something else, I hope they get indicted for fraud. Of course, if the prosecutor is some Democratic “ally” like Steve Descano that won’t happen. It’s all about scratching each other’s backs and covering each other’s tracks.

There’s plenty of farmland in great falls. Why not build a new school there?

I live in GF. We don’t need a new high school. The mythical “western HS” is to alleviate crowding further west.

Further west of Great Falls is a different county with its own school system.

And the new school isn’t a myth according to FCPS’s own capital spending programs.

Obviously, when referring to “further west” within FCPS, we’re talking about Chantilly, Herndon, etc.

And let us know when they actually break ground in this mythical high school that many of us have heard about for 20+ years.

This would almost be worth it just to see the outrage from parents living outside of Great Falls once they realize their kids’ high school soccer field is also the septic field …. it would be a whole new level of hatred for Great Falls.

It’s not so obvious. Much of Great Falls is west of Chantilly, as much as they might act otherwise.

I believe the intent is to start construction in the latter half of the decade, so the people who quake at the thought of being reassigned to a more diverse school will have several more years to call it mythical and work behind the scenes to kill it. But if the county asks taxpayers to start funding the land and building costs, and then diverts the money elsewhere, it’s fraud and the county officials involved face potential criminal liability.

I think you need to take a map reading class.

Once more, the schools that need relief are Chantilly and Centreville. Chantilly has an enrollment of about 1000 more than Langley according to last year's membership data. But, you want to take kids from Langley? Just because they are wealthy? Why?
