Work Clothes For Thin Women

I like the recommendation LK Bennett (above) but a bit pricey. We all know of the amazing brands such as Anne Klein, but which do not fit, so lets focus on amazing brands that carry sizes for everyone.

If you worked at the White House, you would not wear a suite from The Limited!!

Love and peace...

Thank you in advance!!!

FUnny how you ask for advice and people feel personally attacked because they are not tall and thin. Wait, what???

THE TRUTH is WOMEN OF ALL SHAPES AND SIZES HAVE TROUBLE FINDING CLOTHES THAT FIT RIGHT. PERIOD! Can't we agree that finding clothes that are just right is very time consuming..for everyone?

Have you seen the clothes actually on the mannequin? THEY ARE PINNED IN THE BACK! Since I am "BUILT LIKE THE RUNWAY MODELS" I wondered why when I would try on the clothes, there was way too much fabric.

Because while you believe the industry caters to tall thin women, the industry knows most women don't fit that. It's marketing that makes you think that -- or wait, did you not know that marketing is mostly a lie?? WHY DO YOU HAVE TO HATE ON OTHER WOMEN? Sounds like internalized MISOGYNY, but again I digress.

I personally have had success with Anne Taylor LOFT and EXPRESS for suits and button downs without having to have them altered.

All of you who say the clothing industry is tailored to thin women don't really understand. If a person is narrow through the torso and hips, clothing does not fit. Small sizes and too short and sizes that fit in length are too big and look sloppy.

In Europe you would not have this problem because most people are small but they make most pants and many skirts and dresses on the long side. When you buy them the store tailor fixes them for you on the spot.

I run into this problem frequently. I am 5'6" and 118. I have an extremely narrow rib cage (bra size 30 or 32) so most dresses are too big at the top. Any suggestions of brands/stores that run smaller in this area?

My thin friend goes to Ann Taylor and Banana Republic. She also prefers tailored pants suits to dresses. This makes her look more polished and pulled together, IMO.

I'm 5'8" and 135 lbs. Ann Taylor runs large, you'll have trouble even with their size 0, I think. (their 4L is what I usually wear). And the pants are short, if you have long legs. Nothing ever fits me there. Try BCBG and J. Crew, and try online shopping so you can get long slacks if you have the length problems I have.

I second this. I'm 5'8" and 130 lbs and wear a 0 or 2 at Ann Taylor, lol. I wear a 2 at BR. In high school (20 years ago), I was the same size and wore a 6-8 at BR/GAP. You are very thin and may have to look for clothing at stores that cater to teens--Limited, etc. Nordstrom has some departments that carry slimmer fit, work appropriate clothing and offers tailoring with for cardholders.

I'm 5'8, weight 105. Too thin and don't like it. No, the mannequins are not me. People think you're so lucky for being thin but there are lots of clothing issues. I can't find jeans and pants that fit. Tops just hang. Any advice for stores that I may have luck with? Appreciate any advice

I am the same height -- That is very thin, but you already know that. Have you tried J Crew?

I don't know if "the fashion industry caters" to people who are 5'8" and weigh 103.

This is like the most obvious humblebrag ever.

Yeah, I'm sort of puzzled by this one too. I'm 5 feet 3 inches so I like stores who have petite options and who cater to more "average" height women, but it's pretty easy to find clothes for thin women. I would say any store that is not a plus sized women's store. So, stay away from Lane Bryant and you're set.

You are terribly wrong. I am a 26 year old female and I am too thin for clothing in most stores. I did not choose to be thin but it is in my genetics. I even see a dietician to help gain weight because I struggle to put weight on even when I try. Until you've lived a day in someones shoes stop make assumptions and judging. Do you think I enjoy having to wear children's clothing to my adult job?

Have you tried Holister jeans? I am 105 lbs and 5'6 and their 00 fits me well.

Have you heard of a tailor? Learn where you need the clothes to fit - shoulders, hips etc ( ask the tailor about this ) and alter the rest. Seriously, this is what adults do.
