Jay Matthews: VMPI Probably Will Keep Tracking Just Because of Parent Pressure

Omg - they posted one link to detracking. Better freak out.

Plus said, "VMPI proposals do promote equity and that the practice of isolating low-achieving students in low-level or slower-paced mathematics groups should be eliminated"

And LCPS has already implemented it.

Implemented what? The proposal doesn’t even have a draft yet.

Tell that to the kids not in algebra or prealgebra next year because of what LCPS did to implement VMPI.

If they try it again, I'm sure someone will alert the community and the same reaction will play out again.

Except then there won't be an election looming.

Teachers in a poll were against detracking. VMPI's response, 'We still have a lot of work to do.'

And they are no longer pushing it. Get over it.

LCPS didn't "implement VMPI" because VMPI hasn't even published a draft yet. Unless some dumba$$ there prematurely adopted what they thought was VMPI.

More likely....LCPS was already planning these changes.

Yes they have published a draft. It's what they've been talking about in their videos. They've been talking more to the division staff directly.
LCPS knew about the change in classes coming in a few years, and made changes accordingly. They may be revisiting given the walkback on tracking, but the change to algebra/geometry/algebra 2 can certainly be considered a first draft.

No longer pushing it directly. They are still working on it.
And they are pushing it on their website with the links, calling it broad national scholarship.

No - they don't have a "published draft" - they have a freakin' infographic.

If LCPS made changes to their course offerings based off an infographic then obviously that was premature.

No, LCPS staff had discussions with VMPI describing what they were implementing. Who knows what all they said to LCPS, but the staff came out of it arguing that giving tests for acceleration to 5th graders was too stressful.

Maybe they’ve had discussions about national tends in math education but there is no published draft.

So you acknowledge VMPI is pushing detracking?

You keep hyping published draft, when VMPI is doing more than writing some material.

Depends what you mean by “pushing”?
