I don't know much about girls, but amongst the boys there are several very good clubs in the DMV area, not all of which are DA teams. And even more clubs with some very good players. Trying to pick all the best players at early age, put them in two teams, call those teams elite, and then have them drive long distances for matches against other segregated elite teams doesn;t strike me as the best way to develop players, nor to create a deep pool of talent. The best way by far would be to let all teams compete together, with the best players gravitating towards the best coaches and the best teams rising to the top. The more teams that play in such a structure, the more elite players will emerge. The most important factor of all is getting great coaches. And there are not enough, although it seems to me that things are definitely improving in this area. albeit slower than one might hope. |
Noth the PP. But it depends on the player. Could well be that the PP is absolutely correct. |
College coaches could care less about whether a player moved to a new team during recruitment years or played for 10 years for the same club. It is too early to speak about whether coaches will attend GAL events, the league has not played a single game. It is a tough choice for the families of former DA players. For some, they will stay with their club and hope that GAL creates a good recruitment platform and provide high level of competition. Others will try to move to an ECNL club, which has a more established college recruitment platform. It is an individual choice and there is no right answer for everyone. |
The ECNL is not about developing players. It is about winning. They try to put together winning teams at each age group. It is not conductive to development. Do you really think they care about a players development at 18 or what the player will be at 24? No. Why would they? At 18 it’s over no more money. |
Agreed because parents are _always_ the best judge of their kid’s abilities
|
Wrong -- the McLean talent is making its way to Arlington ROFL
|
Parents have the same bias about their team, club and now league. |
What talent? I hear the Mclean teams get worse the younger they get. |
No of course they're not. But there are kids good enough to make the roster of any team. And somebody has to be the parent of those kids. |
I heard the cost will be $4000 per player for the year and each national event per team $1200 extra. Has anyone heard the same? |
No. I haven't heard that. Still - my kid actually gets paid to play although I'm supposed to keep that quiet - so this wouldn't bother me all that much even if it were true. |
Good for you! The price does worry me a little. Just don’t know what we would be getting for that and what the breakdown would be. |
Was j/k

| I bet a whole lot of college coaches would show up at a tournament where the local GA and ECNL O3/04/05 teams play each other. Heck, bring in Armour and Pipeline and Richmond United. Leaving the whole GA versus ECNL thing aside, that would be a fantastic opportunity for more local coaches to see all the local girls. I hope with COVID and travel restrictions somehow the clubs are able to make that happen now that the draconian DA rules are gone. |
Jeff Cup next year. All the local showcases are oppties for this. |
