They can easily pivot to another candidate (Jeb, Nikki, Romney) who would attract swing voters and defeat any of the Dem candidates.
If they did it now, they might just regain the House and continue to control the Senate.

They can't force him out of office--and therefore out of the running for reelection--without a conviction on impeachment, which will take months.

Otherwise, he can decide to run against anyone they put up as a primary challenger.

This will be wrapped up by Christmas.

Don't be so sure. The Nixon impeachment hearings took over a year. The Senate Watergate Committee was formed in February 1973 and delivered its final report in June 1974. Nixon resigned in August 1974.

I hope the Democrats keep this impeachment very narrowly focused on this episode. The Committees can keep going on their many investigations, but impeachment on this specific episode and any obstruction of justice related to it. It would be a very strong case, and I think there's a good shot at getting a conviction in the Senate.

Once he's out, I'd like to see the committees continue their investigations. We will ultimately need a full accounting of everything this administration did. Maybe that means a DOJ under a new administration follows up those investigations with criminal investigations like after Watergate. Maybe there is a special committee outside regular government, like after 9/11, with appointees of both parties. I don't know.

But get him out, quickly.

Well, he sure screwed up the opening with that ridiculous parody that was so misleading.

Yeah. Unforced error.

Schiff and Nunes both start strongly. They have read the whistle-blower complaint, and have planned their line of questioning and interpretation for the public.

Maguire declares he is apolitical.

You can't be serious...

You have a lot more faith in McTurtle and senate republicans than I do.

I love Schiff, but Republicans are going to exploit the hell out of that parody. Republicans and Trumpkins don’t understand parody, irony, satire, or anything that isn’t black and white. I can hear it now...”Schiff is a liar!!! You can’t believe anything the Democrats say!” Wish he hadn’t done that.

Impeachment is the right thing to do, and may end up helping at the ballot box.

The gop senators won’t do jack. Even Sasse.

And so it begins...

“Adam Schiff has zero credibility. Another fantasy to hurt the Republican Party!“

It doesn’t matter. We know the house will impeach. We know the senate won’t convict.

Yes, and even Schiff acknowledged it was a mistake. But it wasn't misleading.

Agreed. This situation is pretty straightforward, something that the average American can understand. No need to complicate impeachment with the thousands of other despicable acts that Trump has committed. I think that Senate Republicans will vote to convict, because it’s in their best interest. Trump’s act is getting old; Romney, Haley, and other semi-sane Republicans are more electable and presumably a lot easier to deal with. That’s the one downside to impeachment - a seemingly normal Republican Presidential candidate in 2020 (although underneath they’re all the same).

Actually I'm not so sure about that now. Not if the charge is that the President told Ukraine if they wanted military aid then they had to dig up dirt on the Bidens.

You realize that this investigation could bring down a large part of the Executive Branch - Pence, Barr, Pompeo, the WH counsel's office, Parts of DOJ, right? Does the GOP want to pay that price?

Most people are smarter than that. Can't do anything about the Infowars crowd.
