Where can I buy a military grade assault weapon? You can't unless you have a class 3 firearms license and 20k in cash. New ones have been banned since 1986. |
Robert Francis threatened to deny the guy his constitutional rights.
Lets keep the drama going Beto, it is the only way he thinks he can stay relevant. If anyone thinks he will have the authority to take guns away from legal gun owners, he is sadly mistaken. The Second Amendment was put in the Constitution by our forefathers for the simple reason - prevent Government tyranny. The Second Amendment does not apply to semiautomatic rifles, nor does it apply to bolt-action rifles, pistols or revolvers. The Second Amendment restricts government. The technology of the firearm is irrelevant. The restrictions on government remain the same, regardless of the firearm. The Second Amendment was not written to grant citizens permission to own and bear firearms. It forbids government interference with the right to keep and bear arms, period. |
You can own fighter aircraft, tanks, and artillery. |
First, how much of an idiot do you have to be to think that reminding people that Beto was named after RFK is a solid dunk on him? You should ask Rafael Cruz his opinion about that. Second, if the technology of firearms is irrelevant, why aren't we able to purchase fully automatic rifles and bazookas? Rock Creek Park is full of deer and I really feel like I need my own bazooka to kill a few of them. Why can't I buy one? That pinko commie Antonin Scalia wrote that the 2nd Amendment is "not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose." I guess he should have checked with you first given your superior knowledge of the constitution. |
I’d love a pic of you shooting a gun. A video would be better. ![]() Here’s your bazooka. |
Dp here Some on the right accuse Beto of presenting himself as Hispanic. It's much the same as Ted Cruz making himself less Hispanic through his choice of name. |
|
Shrug. Not SAMs but a common rifle is within the protection of the second amendment. I am not asking you to like it, just that this is reality. |
Pssssst, Jeff! - you CAN purchase fully automatic machineguns and “bazookas”. I own several. They’re just extraordinarily expensive ($25,000-$70,000 for mine) and the paperwork takes about a year to clear. But yes, you can absolutely own them if the were made before 1986, in the case of machineguns. Destructive Devices (generic term for explosive projectile weapons) require the same paperwork, but can be newly manufactured. I own a couple Soviet era RPG-7’s as well, with several practice rockets for each, plus some subcaliber kits for shooting empty caulk tubes (lots of fun, btw). |
Does anyone know where the nickname Beto came from? |
“Beto” is/was a semi-popular nickname in certain parts of the country (southwest almost exclusively) for white males of low SES or blue collar status who lived in predominantly hispanic communities or had a lot of interaction with hispanics. It’s a term of neutral/casual affection, not of derision. Typically someone in a blue collar or agricultural field, without much education. So in other words, an entirely appropriate nickname for a UMC white male hipster who married into a $20 billion dollar fortune. ![]() /s |
Wikipedia says this: "In his infancy, his family gave him the nickname "Beto", a common Spanish-Portuguese nickname for first names ending in "-berto", initially to distinguish him from his namesake grandfather." |
I’m originally from El Paso, yes I’m Latina.
Beto, got his nickname from his Mexican American teachers, his Mexican American friends, his Mexican American classmates. Of course he can use the nickname Beto. Just like Ted can use the nickname Ted. |
Beto O’Rourke’s nickname is Spanish, but his last name is Irish. What gives? How did Beto O’Rourke get his nickname?
Some people have criticized O’Rourke for supposedly using the Spanish-sounding nickname to curry favor with Latino voters (no, he’s not Latino). However, Beto has used the nickname since childhood. His father gave it to him. There is a political dimension to the name, though, because his dad was a political figure in El Paso, Texas who thought the Spanish-sounding name would help his son in that community if he ever ran for office. https://www.google.com/amp/s/heavy.com/news/2019/06/beto-o-rourke-nickname-name-pronounce/amp/ |
That’s not true, I’m from El Paso. We gave him his nickname. If you have an issue with it go talk to people who know Beto since childhood. We gave him his nickname. Beto, knows he’s not Hispanic. Like I said his Mexican American teachers, etc, gave him his nickname. |
