She seemed a tad condescending referring to those annoying constituents that expect to have their representatives advocate for them rather than manipulate them

Why would an at-large representative be expected to advocate for keeping kids in western Fairfax at Langley if a new high school were built?

Was the question asked in that manner? I have seen no signs at all of a new Western Fairfax high school. We've heard about it for years. And, FWIW, I live in a community that would definitely be in consideration for that. Frankly, I don't see how it would affect Langley. Centreville/Chantilly/Oakton seem to be the most in need.

And, if Great Falls should move to Herndon--which I doubt--who would go to Langley?

That’s not what I said. The pp interpretation of her comment was too generous - so I quoted her exactly. Not sure why the snark about the Stop Social Engineering Signs...... those are the rules of the school board. Public may attend but not speak during work session meetings but are allowed to bring small signs no larger than 8.5 x11. Hynes, Evans, Corbett Sanders and Laura’s absolutely want to socially engineer the schools to have a preferred demographic mix. How else is the public supposed to protest something they think is wrong, disruptive and a waste of time and money.

They don’t even own the land for a new high school so thst is a ways off unless they come up with a huge chunk of money. The root issue for those opposing the current issue of the board is not using One Fairfax as an excuse to push socioeconomic and racial diversity as a solution to the achievement gap.

Not one school district has done this successfully so to pursue it (by reviewing the boundary policy through the OF lens of equity to ensure that future boundary issues must prioritize that diversity) is social engineering to avoid hard, intractable problems. The law of averages makes the Sb look better but does not help struggling schools and struggling children

Yes. They had the land in a great location to relieve crowding, but gave it to the Saudis. I still don't understand how that happened. The BOS finessed it, I think. There was NO community input.

Just because you say these things does not make them true.

Neither PP. First PP is correct. It won't fix things. Just cover up test scores.

That’s a fair point. Are you aware of a school district that has improved the achievement gap through changing school boundaries to increase socioeconomic and racial diversity? No one on the school board has been able to....short of that this would be an experiment

Will the Herndon pta or any other Herndon community groups be hosting candidate forums? I didn't find anything from Google.

Unfortunately for Herndon there isn’t much organizing. Also very unfair there are very few special ed kids in Herndon because $10k to pay a doctor to get ADHD diagnosis is unaffordable to most so Herndon kids don’t have extra time to take tests, all the McLean kids get more time on tests - nobody looks out for Herndon...

And........we have a winner in one of the most outrageous statements on this forum.

. Did you even look at the stats?

Herndon has 15.48% special education students
Langley has 8.05% special education students
McLean has 10.34% special education students

Sheila Olem and Cesar Del Aguila organized a Herndon event for Elaine Tholen on Station Street in early September.

I don’t think so. FWIW, the League of Women Voters - Fairfax has a Dranesville candidates forum scheduled for 10/17 at the McLean Community Center (1234 Ingleside Avenue). Start time is 7 PM.
