Kids who know how to sit still. |
lol. No. I think this is an accurate description of what most people THINK high class people are like. |
As an old-school DC money person (you don’t have to believe me; affects me not at all) I would say this is pretty accurate. Family name somewhere in the name (no “I love Hugo as a middle name!)” Everything is solvable. Most things seem like new money issues, because they are. |
Subtle sign of class? Not judging people’s classiness based on material things.
I have been in a home that was impeccably decorated and built. The children behave like little adults and the family would be the epitome of class for many people on here. However, there is a lack of personality that seems to go along with it and while beautiful, to me, the house feels cold and staged. I’ll take a home with creative clutter and family photos on the wall any day. Those seem to be the people who don’t care what others think. Just my observation. The family with the classy house is super nice, but I can’t seem to relax or be myself around them. |
LOL. This thread has really jumped the shark. |
Stage 4 cancer? Drug addiction? Incest? Rank stupidity? |
and sadly jumping the shark is a sign of being low class tut tut i actually did go to school with a girl named muffy, that said |
just one dirty martini and poof, even those problems are gone it's the waspy magic of drinking up |
Define rich? We have a tv in our living room - in a corner because we don't want an insanely huge house. There is also one in the basement for the kids/video games. But, we like to LIVE in our living room so it has a sit and work area, a socialize around the fireplace area and a tv nook area. Maybe true definition of class is spending your money on what it important to you and not to impress others? |
Can we add Neil Gaiman in too? |
As another old-money person, although not native to DC, the points about alcohol and everything being solvable thanks to the family safety net are right. The last-names-as-middle-names thing is wrong, as is the supposed lack of interest in organic food. |
So now rich people don't have Kindles? The rich people I know have donated all their books and are exclusively using devices. Y'all are confused. |
There is not that much old money in the DC area. Some, but not that much. "Everything is solvable" is an optimist thing, not a money thing. The friends I have that have been exposed to diversity think this way. Spoiled brats whose parents help them out? Not so much. |
I don’t understand how anyone with an IQ over 80 can believe everything is solvable. Are these people simpletons? |
It's almost like class is one of multiple ways powerful white people have justified holding on to power historically |
