Favorite ice cream flavor and brand?

Thelma's.
I remember that.
I used to go there as a child.
I never loved the ice cream but talk about a blast from the past (even in 1980s, it was a time capsule to the 19...40s?)

This thread is making me wish we had more ice cream shops. I love Graeters, but don't like it in the pint. They add stuff to it to make it last that isn't in the stores if you just go get a cone.

We don't have a single ice cream store within a 15 minute drive that isn't dairy queen or frozen yogurt (yuck).

Maybe they'll be the next rage, like cupcake shops used to be.

Re: simple ingredients vs. gums and carageenans:

Growing up, Breyer's used to be the standard, just had milk, cream, sugar, and the flavor. No more than 5 ingredients. The cartons were actual half gallons. Then they added all the crap, including to beloved Breyer's mint chocolate chip.

Now, there are very few brands with limited ingredients. Some Haagen Das, and one line of Turkey Hill, Turkey Hill All Natural. The confusion here is because Turkey Hill also sells a line of ice creams with all the additives, as well as their All Nautural line.

If you stick to their All Natural line, they are delicious, inexpensive, and have just a few ingredients. They have a mint chocolate chip too.

I was in Ohio and based on the love in this thread of Graeters black raspberry I tried it. What am I missing ? It was gritty and had no real flavor. It was basically just chocolate with purple dye. The chunks of chocolate were fine but the “cream” was awful.

Thank you DCUM for the graeter’s blackberry chocolate chip suggestion. I tried it last night. Yum! Jeni’s brambleberry crisp is still my favorite though. I’m looking forward to trying the 3 twins lemon cookie. Oh, and I thought of another favorite: Haagen Daaz Chocolate peanut butter

Turkey Hill Mint Chocolate Chip, you can usually get this 2 for $5 when it's on sale.

There are many others . I eat Haagen Daz but never Turkey Hill - it just doesn’t seem that fresh and when you make junky ice creams I don’t trust your ‘natural line’

Anyway:

McConnell’s
Jenni’s
Three Sisters
Julie’s Organic (very yummy)

I sit it on the counter for ~15 minutes before digging in!

I eat a lot of ice cream... especially in the summer... so we generally stick to Edy's Slow-Churned varieties (because I would much rather enjoy 360 calories worth of Edy's than 900 calories worth of premium ice cream). My favorite is Edy's Slow-Churned French Silk!

Cincinnatian so definitely Graeter's black raspberry chocolate chip. Locally, we usually get moorenkos or jubilee.
